Mayfieldsportsfan Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Don't know if this game will be a good one or not. Since this is a big rivalry game you can throw the stats and records out the door because you can never tell what will happen in this game. Mayfield handled a good Trousdale team last week and PT barley beat a team with only 21 players dressed out. Guess we will see what happens.
retired Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Mayfield wins the Battle of the Jackson Purchase by 17......
cardinalsvoice Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 As much as I would say that Mayfield wins by 3-4 TD's...it is Mayfield-Tilghman...and you can throw records out the window in this game. It should be another fun one to watch and to call. I say Mayfield wins..35-21

spindoc Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 According to you this should be an easy win for the best team in the Purchase....:thumb: And what does it look like according to you?
cardinalsvoice Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 According to you this should be an easy win for the best team in the Purchase....:thumb: Anyone that knows football here in western Kentucky knows that 35-21 in the Mayfield - Tilghman Series is an easy win :thumb:
cardinalsvoice Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 And what does it look like according to you? He's just upset that in the Lone Oak - Marshall thread he talked about Marshall County not being that good this year and that they were beaten by a 1A school...and I just reminded him that the 1A school that beat Marshall County is right now probably the best team here in the Jackson Purchase at least in the first two weeks
Mayfieldsportsfan Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 Its just typical talk from a fan of a team who has had a good team a couple of years and think they are world beaters. Fulton City, Calloway County and Marshall County all thought that too until their talent graduated. They have to rebuild while schools like Beechwood, Highlands, Mayfield and the Big two just reload. Before anyone jumps on me there are a lot of other schools that reload also I just didn't want to type them all out LOL.
WKYfootballguy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Mayfield avoids the letdown after a big win... Mayfield-41 Tilghman-12

Your right but after years of terrible to mediocre teams in LO we have got to brag a little and with the consolidation looming it may be a long time before we dominate like this again....so dont hate .As for the game it will be a close one i think but a W is a W and Mayfield will pull it out, --------34-28:notworthy: "34 switchblade for the state championship......I love y'all" .

I agree that Lone Oak has nowhere near the tradition of a Mayfield, but I would not consider what they have done as good years. 14-1, a Top 5 ranking, with a trip to the title game and a Mr. Football winner in 2007 then followed up with a 10-2 season, Top 5 ranking with another 1st Team All-Stater and D-1 player. The other teams you mention(Calloway and Fulton) are traditionally weak programs who struck lightning in a single season. I think what L.O. is doing is building a very solid program. Lots of talent in the underclassmen and leadership at the top.
redleg13 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Tilghman has a fine young quarterback, but I'd be surprised to see Mayfield win by less than 3 touchdowns!
WESTKY#1 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Earlier post mentioned Mayfield "reloading" while others had to re-build. Mayfield in the past has had to rebuild, just not as often and they have managed to stay competitive EVERY year even when they are down a little. 1998: 14-1 1999: 9-4 2000: 13-1 2001: 8-6 2003: 10-4 2004: 8-6 2006: 11-3 2007: 9-4 2008: 7-6

You forgot 2005. Went to state finals. 2006: 11-3 2007: 9-4 If you knew what happend in 2007 to the team you would know that it was not a rebuilding year. 2008: 7-6 Same stuff as 2007 just worse.

There was nothing wrong with what I said. They are doing the right things to become a tradtionally good team and I think they will become that and wish nothing but the best for them. It is a shame that they will have to join the other schools.
