Rockcastle's problem last night was a combination of too much McShara, (heck of a runner) playing ironman football with Boyle County having pretty much two teams going in and out, and, some hinky refereeing in the first half. (Rockcastle was called for six or seven of their eight penalties in a row in the first half). The penalties stalled three drives in the first half in which Rockcastle was chipping away two to four yards at a time. A ten or fifteen yard penalty was just too much to overcome for them against a stiff defense. You could see the boys tiring in the game with Boyle fresh where they were switching out on offense and defense. I think without McShara in the game, it would have been a very different ballgame. That kid must have rockets in his backside, he was tough last night. The hinky refereeing seemed to settle down a bit in the second half, with calls going both ways. But it caused a long run for the Rockets to be called back in the first half that would have possibly been Rockcastle second score with Boyle not having scored yet. I'm sure that they made the calls that they saw and maybe our boys made six or seven straight penalties, but one pass interference call with the defenders hands straight up in the air and him not touching Boyle's receiver just before halftime, (I know for a fact this one stunk) was hinky. Congrats Boyle, your boy McShara is the real deal. I think Rock will get the ship righted and come around with some hard work and a little luck (staying healthy) and Boyle (with a healthy McShara and that killer linebacker) will contend this year.

 

 

Guess it just depend on where you were sitting. That was a no brainer call to me. From my angle it was plain as day pass interference.

I thought Boyle got flagged on a pass interferance call on on a 3rd. and 15 that kept Rockcastle's drive going for their 2nd. touchdown in the 2nd. quarter?

 

 

I think it was on Reese's first TD run, I seen where a Rockcastle player 10 or so yards behind Reese sprinted past a Boyle lineman trailing the play and stopped in front of him. Acting as if he got a push in the back. I must say that was very cleaver, but the ref was on top of it and seen what happened.

Thanks for the props Commander 25. I think its to early to crown BC, thats why they play the game. I must say though, I do like our chances. That's a pretty bold prediction coming from a Bobcat fan.

Back on Track...I was very disapointed in the Rebels in the first quarter...But they Did what any great team would do...They learned from there mistakes...

In a few weeks my Admiral's will play Boyle...I just hope the Ads give the Rebs a good game...I do believe that my top five are the real deal and I would be shocked if four out the five are not in a state championship game...

The one that called back the touchdown was the second, just before the halftime horn. There was at least 22 minutes of game clock where only Rockcastle was penalized. Rockcastle had at least six maybe seven in between with three of those penalties stopping drives. Rockcastle also proved that they could drive the ball just before halftime and before the boys were worn down. I'm not taking anything away from a good Boyle County team, but, only stating my opinion that when the pendelum of penalties swung the other way in the second half, the damage was done and Rockcastle was behind by three or four touchdowns at the end of the second quarter. Rockcastle's only chance of winning that game was to control the ball and keep it out of McShara's hands. No matter how many penalties against Boyle in the second half, after being down by three touchdowns, Rockcastle was worn down and probably wasn't coming out of the hole.

 

 

I have no doubt that you feel this way and maybe rightly so.

 

However I bolded some things that don't add up in your argument.

 

1. You state: Rock proved it could drive before they were worn down. I understand that but Boyle did put up 28 unanswered points before that drive and it only took a few plays to do it. It actually seemed that the Rock's problem was on defense, not offense.

 

2. You state: In the first 22 minutes Rock had 6 or 7 penalites to Boyle's none. Then you point out that in the 2nd half "when the pendulum swung back" it was too late. Rock was only down 28-15 at the half. It wasn't too late until the 2 TD runs that put Boyle up 42 - 15 in the 3rd Quarter and by then the penalties sound like they were being thrown on Boyle, not Rock. In other words, the deciding factors were Boyle's offense and big plays - not penalites. (IMO)

 

3. You state: Rock needed to keep it out of MacShara's hands. He only had 13 carries. You can't get it much more out of his hands than that. Rockastle had the ball for 65 plays to Boyle's 31. It doesn't add up you that you can keep it out of Boyle's hands anymore than that, with or without penalties.

 

 

It all boils down to the big play runs of Rees that no amount of ball control would have helped in this game. :thumb:

Boyle may be the team to beat in 4A, but it looks as if the Rock has demanded a little more respect. The four big belly plays up the middle that Rees ran made the score look a little worse than it should have been. As for anyone thinking (in favor of Boyle) that the score did not reflect the game, wasn't there. Rock gave Boyle a better game than predicted. All three Rock touchdowns were scored on Boyle's starting defense. Boyle is a great team no doubt. As a Rock fan I am just proud of the team that played last night.

I also think, that the Rock is better than preseason rankings, after watching this game. I have a few more teams that I would like to watch this year, but I am making the prediction that Boyle County and the Rock will meet again deep in the playoffs. I think that Boyle will win all of their regular season games. I think that the Rock will go undefeated with one exception, the Bell County away game. I am not ready to predict that game yet. As for now, I think that it will be a good game to see.

You have perfectly described a form of defensive pass interference where there doesn't have to be contact. It is called face gaurding. In high school football the defender can not block the receivers vision with out making an attempt at the ball.

That's exactly what happened, and from where I was sitting, there was some contact as well.

No suprise Rock scored some points off of defense that has been their calling card for years now.

You are exactly right. Took the words right out of my mouth. I was meaning to post that earlier. However, alot of people don't know of face guarding for some reason. As a corner you must find the ball and go for it. Usually there can be SOME contact as long as you(the corner) was going for the ball.
