Didn't we just have a pretty lengthy thread on this recently?

If you're betting on or against your own team then that gets my vote.

How is betting on your team worse than taking steroids? Betting against your team I can see how you could make the argument but betting on your team to win is no where close to the same thing as steroids.

When you've got money on the line you make bad choices even in the name of trying to win. Lets say you're hurt but you believe you're better than Plan B so you lie about your injury just so you can get in the game not with the #1 priority being your team winning but , rather, YOU winning. Instead, your injury hurts your team and you lose.

Every teammate and fan is hurt by this.

Lesser of two evils for me.

Lesser of the two evils...Well since you are throwing out random scenarios then I will too.

Taking steroids, you get a 50 game suspension if caught. Player A decides that it's worth the risk and has missed the first drug testing so he decides to use again but this time a little more. Within a year of using Player A has serious medical problems from over/improper using and dies.

death > gambling

Fantastic example, Clyde. Gambling has long been and still is the most atrocious of sins in the sporting world.

Extreme example, yes! Fantastic example? Far from it.

But to use your example, the problem posed was "Which is the greater baseball sin?" not "Which of these does the most damage?" There is a difference.

If we're changing how we're keeping score then lets add alcohol. Player A drinks in the clubhouse after the game, drives home tipsy, kills a family of 4 and himself.

How far do you want to take this?

We're talking about damaging the game - not damaging the individual.

This is a vague question...and as the rules stand now, I would almost put them as equal, but gambling on the game, can lead to so many more problems IMO...that's my vote.
