Minimum weight for a light heavyweight would be just above the maximum for middleweight. I don't think you can fight at light heavyweight unless you are within 186-205 lbs. As for heavyweight, you would have to be above 206. The weight classes in the UFC look like this: Lightweight - 155lbs Welterweight - 156 lbs to 170 lbs Middleweight- 171 lbs to 185 lbs Light heavyweight - 186 lbs to 205 lbs Heavyweight - 206 to 265 lbs It would be pretty stupid to fight at heavyweight and not at least weigh 206 lbs. You'd be fighting guys like Brock Lesnar, who have to cut to make the 265 lb limit.

It's intriguing to think of Silva moving up to that level, but it's not as exciting to me as the potential fights at 205. He would destroy Cro Cop. I don't even know why that fight is on the radar, unless they just wanted to feed a big name to The Spider.

My next question- if Silva has to put on 21 extra pounds (assuming his "fight weight" was at 185 lbs when he was a middle weight)....how much, if at all, would it affect his quickness and agility?

I'm not really sure what you are talking about regarding the General Discussion forum. But the way I see it, size doesn't matter if the smaller person knows how to fight, and the bigger person does not. Obviously if all things are equal then size makes a difference. Silva walks around at about 205 when he's fighting at 185. That means when he enters the cage on fight night he's probably around 200-205 lbs (when he's a middleweight and weighed in at 185). But when he fights at light heavyweight I'd say he puts on some weight and probably walks around at about 215-220. Therefore he could fight at heavyweight and not have to cut any weight if my guesses are anywhere close.

There is no hope for him to win the title at LHW, since he won't fight Machida. He won't fight Little Nog. He'd kill Chuck Liddell. Who else is there? The loser of Rashad/Rampage (since the winner will get a title shot)? Shogun? Moving up to heavyweight gives him Mir, Couture, Cro Cop, Carwin, Velasquez...and maybe Lesnar eventually if he does good enough. I'm intrigued by the idea. I agree with you that he'd kill Liddell, but heck let's see him at least fight a few of the top guys at LHW before he jumps two classes. Either way this goes I'll be excited to see it, because as you said he has owned MW, and I want to see him challenged more.

All this Silva talk is getting out of hand, he is a great fighter but the hype is getting so old. HW, come on.......yes he will beat the lower level guys, and he might even beat CC of now, but a Heath Herring, Gonzaga, Carwin, Vasquez,.....any of the TRUE HW, he has a slim chance because he is a striker......but they get him down on the ground against the cage......its game over.
August 20, 200917 yr At this point Id love to see him make the jump to HW. At 205 he just beats all the title contenders and screws up that division. At HW there are some interesting fights and he could work his way to a title if he is able to defeat those guys. Silva vs Kongo would be a interesting first fight at HW.
August 20, 200917 yr All this Silva talk is getting out of hand, he is a great fighter but the hype is getting so old. Thats your opinion. Why not put him in there and lets see if its hype or not? If it is we will find out if he fights them.
