woodsrider Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This year Henderson has tighten up their dress code and it has been met with mixed emotions. One of the biggest debates in the paper has been about the new rule of... No visible Tatoos or piercings other then ears. When I was in high school this wasn't really an issue as the tatoo & piercing craze wasn't in full swing yet. My question is what are your thoughts on this? And really dress codes in general? I personally wish they would go to uniforms but not sure they will ever happen.
HHSDad Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I think that dress codes are for the most part silly and detractive. My exception would be the amount of skin and/or underwear showing.
Cheapsnate Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 If Lil Wayne went to that school, there would be a major problem.....
PurpleHaze Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I think dress codes are great. It gets them ready for real life. Anywhere you work there is a dress code....I could not go in to my place of employment with green hair...the clients just would not have felt comfortable with me in counseling. I think it is important for the younger people to know to follow ALL rules, which does include mode of dress. When they get home, then it is up to their parents and them as what is acceptable. Mostly, we all dress a little differently at home then we do when we go out and about.
cch5432 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 No visible Tatoos or piercings other then ears. That's bizzarre. They allow ear tattoos, but none others? Strange.....
DragonFire Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 That's bizzarre. They allow ear tattoos, but none others? Strange..... HA! But in all seriousness, what are they supposed to do if they had a tattoo on their arm (let's say between the elbow and the hand) that was pre-existing to this code? Are they really supposed to wear long sleeves all year, including the hot months?
woodsrider Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 HA! nees1212 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 To me, it sounds like they're a little late on this rule. Piercings and tattoos are more the norm now. No longer are people 'distracted' by a nose, eyebrow, or lip ring, or a large tattoo on someone's arm or lower back. As for dress codes in general, either way is fine by me. Dress codes usually eliminate the grey areas as to whether certain items can be worn. However, it also eliminates a person's individual personality. And sorry Mrs. PH, but IMO, it has nothing to do with getting them ready with the real world. Not everyone is going to work in the corporate world.

I say let the parents do the parenting and the schools should stick to their jobs.

woodsrider Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 Problem with that is that there are too many kids out there that aren't getting any parenting. Bingo. If the parents weren't letting their kids go to school dressed like they were going to the club then this wouldn't be necessary.
FC Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I support school dress codes. Fort Campbell has a dress code and although it costs a little more to buy khaki pants and golf shirts, at least the kids aren’t wearing pants down around their knees and mini-skirts. Some of these kids at other high schools in the area go to school dressed like they are 21 years old in the club instead of going to school for an education. The tattoo rule could be a bit of a problem as previously discussed. What if someone had a tattoo on their hand? Are they supposed to wear gloves?

If they have a tat where clothes won't cover it then they have to cover it with a band aid or tape or something like that.
formerkywrestler Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Problem with that is that there are too many kids out there that aren't getting any parenting. My answer to that is harsh...but I say, "tough". Life isn't fair, you have to make something of it yourself if you want success.
