Dick Vitale's Preseason Top 40

I like 'Nova in that 5 spot and Duke back to the 8-10 range.

Okay, so I actually don't think UK should be ahead of Mich St. right now. I just think there is still too much unknown right now. Now, Duke being a top 5 team after losing Henderson and Elliott Williams. Come on! Thats just crazy IMO.

UK is too high, as is Duke.

UK's not better than Nova or Michigan State IMO. Duke's like Ohio State in football, not always, but overrated and Georgetown will be a lot better than the 25th best team.

I believe Miss. St. will be a top 10 team. The SEC all of a sudden looks a whole lot better than last year with UK, Miss St, UT, SC, and UF all being very good this year (assuming Florida gets the recent PG addition eligible). Also I think Vandy and Ole Miss will be pretty strong as well. It should be a big step up for the SEC after an awful year overall.

I think I'd go with in the top 5:

1. Kansas

2. Mich St

3. Villanova

4. Kentucky

5. Texas

I agree, they return their top 4 scorers and add Renardo Sidney who was a top 10 recruit. I guess UK is the favorite in the SEC, but I wouldn't be surprised if they won the conference either.

Not sure why UK is a top ten team? Based on what? Hype is the only thing. Now I do think they have the talent and schedule to be top 10. Just a lot to put on freshmen.

As long as Sidney gets eligible and John Reik can play as well they will be dangerous.

It's not like this is football. Freshmen fit right in.

That looks like a very good list.

Duke seems very high to me, especially regarding the unknown of losing Hendo and Elliot. I will say that I am extremely excited that it looks as if Andre Dawkins will be arriving to campus a year earlier than expected. He is a legit player with a sweet jumper, and he's pretty long. So, in reality #10 is about where I put Duke, but the season will work it's way out either way!

As much as there is unknown at Duke, that can equally be said about UK....that #2 ranking is pure speculation, just like the #5 ranking that Duke received.

I agree they are both a little bit high.
