He's quick but he doesn't go as quick as say a Jeremy Maclin or a Taylor Mays. Is he faster than Pat White? I don't think so, and officially White didn't run a 4.3.

August 6, 200917 yr While I dog OSU they get top notch recruits year in year out. They usually don't rebuild but reload. They aren't playing in the SEC or Big 12 so they have a chance to win almost all of their games.

I'm not writing them off, they just haven't really done anything yet. That and the fact that everyone really overhypes them, which obviously includes the media. I see potential in Pryor, but he is worlds away from being the player that some think he is. As for Herron I'm sure he'll be a fine RB in time at OSU. They usually have a very productive RB in the backfield for them.

It amazes me that in this day and age when everybody recruits nationally and there are kids from bottom tier BCS programs and mid majors going in the first round because of their 40 times, people (including some who get paid to be analysts) are still simplistic and lazy enough to pull out the old "OMG SEC Speed is teh best! Big Ten iz SLOW!!!1!!1" garbage. Seriously, it's 2009. All the top programs are recruiting the same kids, and they don't magically become faster because they signed their name on a LOI for Florida or LSU instead of Ohio State or Penn State. The skill players at any top 25 program are running at a comparable level. If there's any difference in speed across leagues, it's that in the SEC there's more emphasis placed on having defensive linemen who can run, but those are coaching philosophies more than anything.

Yes, at the top everyone is recruiting the same guys, but in the latter stages of the class, LSU is pulling in better athletes than Michigan does. I don't think that that is really deniable. The Ted Ginn's, Braylon Edwards, etc. can play anywhere, but the overall depth athletically isn't there. And the Big 10 is garbage, IMO. OSU is good, PSU is either really good or mediocre depending on the year, Michigan is usually underachieving, and no one else is consistently good at all. It's one of the 2 worst BCS conferences as far as depth and competition within.

Saban has made them legit once again really quickly. Nebraska may not ever get back to it's mid-90's form, but Pelini has them on the right track, I think they are top 25 for most of this year. A&M is garbage, but their program is always underrated. Notre Dame...well have you ever been to South Bend? Who would want to go there? FSU and Miami have the speed to compete with anyone, the coaching has been sub par. Bowden has struggled to keep his '90's success up, and to be honest I don't know why that is so. They have top 10 talent in the country. Miami has went through the Larry Coker days, and haven't had a legit QB since Ken Dorsey. Up until two years ago, they were a top 5-15 defense annually. What I'm saying is that without speed, it really doesn't matter how good your coaching is these days. I don't necessarily think that OSU was that much worse than UF or LSU, I just think that they couldn't matchup physically. Tressell is a million times better coach that Les Miles, and though Urban is a better coach than Tress, Tress can hold his own strategy wise with anyone. No strategy would have helped them win those games. No coach could have won those games for OSU. I don't think anyone considers that Gators '06 team or that 07' LSU team as a traditionally great team, like say even the 2008 Gators. The Big 10 is garbage. 8 of the 11 teams year in and year out are pathetic. Speed isn't the only thing in college football, but it is a very important part. When both teams are talented, experienced and have good coaching, speed can be the difference. It is something that other conference have more of than the Big 10. And Florida is the fastest state, player wise. Look at the number of teams that try to get down there for players....even USC. Texas has more D-1 kids, California has more D-1 kids, but in general Florida is a hot bed for very athletic talent. Not saying that every kid in Florida is fast, or no other kid outside of FL. is fast, but I think it is the most athletic state.

But it is kind of true, take a look at some of the fastest players in the country: Taylor Mays, Jeffrey Demps, Chris Rainey, Deonte Thompson, Joe Haden, Jahvid Best, Jacquizz Rodgers, Robert Griffin, and Trindon Holliday. Notice a theme? None of those players are in the Big 10. The SEC is the premier conference in the country in terms of speed and it seems that everytime the top team from the Big 10 matches up with a top team in the SEC or Pac-10, the disparity in speed is extremely evident. Maybe Tressel has recruited some speed players at the skill positions and that will begin to change, but until then you're going to keep hearing "The SEC is all speed and the Big 10 is too slow."
