Demetrius Avery OFFICIALLY a Bulldog

Featured Replies

I am not sure about Popp in the top 10. Earls I do believe is going to have a big year. One player not mentioned is the center from NCC...I can't remember his name. I believe he surely will be a top 10 player and the best on NCC's team this year. Rice from Holmes has a lot of talent if he can get his act together. Talent wise, he is a top 10 player.

There is no question Pittman and the two Johnson brothers make it because they were the only All State players from the 9th region last year.Pittman and R. Johnson are unanimous 1st team all state and probably the front runners for Mr. Basketball. IMO: After the Johnsons and Pittman, there is a big dropoff with players 4-10.

Can some other players from Boone make at the end of year, sure, but IMO: Popp should make it way before Earls does.

I think I'd put Popp a little ahead of Earls at this point, but if Earls plays hard consistently, he is capable of making a big difference.

Agree there is a drop-off from 4-10, and these spots could be interchangeable.

Is J. Johnson being recruited by an D1s?

Some of Boone's players are still drawing interest from small D1s, D2s, and on down. I think at least a couple Boone players will go on to play college ball.

I think Cotton is more likely to play baseball in college. I get the impression that is his preferred sport.

Who would you put in top 10 at this point besides Geisler?

I think Earls will have a solid season, but not much different than the last couple. He will probably average low double figures in scoring but won't be among conference leaders in blocks or rebounds. Boone should not pin all of their hopes on Earls.

Wildcat at what elementary did you watch Demetrius Avery play at?

No more than yours. I'll give you Pittman and the Johnsons, but Avery is no more top 10 than the others I have mentioned.

What do you mean no more than yours? I didn't post a top ten. You made the point that holmes has 3-4 players in the top ten, why can't another school. So what makes The Boone players (Gabbard, Pop, Earls, and Cotton, worthy enough to be in the top ten, but not the Highlands group (Kowelnek, Gordon, Grote, and Grubbs?

Avery was the second leading scorer for Conner last year averaging 10.6. He also led the team in rebounding. He averaged more points than Gabbard, Popp, Earls, and Cotton. Stats do not lie! Not to mention Avery does have more potential at the next level, than the players mentioned, becasue of his size and athletic ability.

My top ten

1. Ricardo Johnson

2. Elijah Pittman

3. Jeremiah Johnson

4. Mike Gabbard

5. Stephen Kowelnek

6. Demetrius Avery

7. Kevon Rice

8. Grant Pangollo

9. Ronald Cotton

10. Mitch Mcleish

Saw him play AAU ball.

What was his shooting percentage? How were his other stats? Boone was a much deeper and well balanced team than Conner. How tall is he? 6'1 or 2? Can he/does he dunk in a game? How many assists/rebounds etc?

Just my opinion based on watching all of these kids play over the last several years, especially Pangall, McLeish, Boone players, and Highlands players in both AAU and school ball. If you looked, I put Kowolonek ahead of all of the Boone players.

OK, tell me your ten. Who would you put ahead of them in the 9th. If Holmes can have 4 top 10 players, I don't think it is far fetched that another could have 3 or 4. It's not like Holmes blew Boone out last year, and Boone actually won the first matchup.

Others in the 9th to consider:

Grote, Pangallo, Nichols, Coleman, and the big center from Highlands.

Earls is a better player than Avery. I've watched them both play all the way up from elementary school, and Popp and Gabbard are right there with Avery too. Statistically, none of these 4 are far apart.

You clamed that you watch Demetrius play from elementary but dont have a clue where he played the only time Andy and Demetrius has matched up against one another is in middle school and neither one was more dominate than the other. I know and like Andy alot but first of all they play different positions and Andy plays center and works more on the inside and thats not to say he cant go outside because he does have a nice jumper. Demetrius works inside and out and is an overall more balanced player who plays forward, guard and on some occassion center as far as the dunk they both can. They have also had the pleasure of playing together but played different roles on their school teams. See I like when people talk about stuff they dont know because unlike others I will correct you. Demetrius does not have to dunk or play in a single game because we will still love him the same and thats what parents are suppose to do. Cause academic wise he will still go on to college with or without basketball.

Have nothing against him. He's a fine player. Just my opinion that Earls is a better overall player. Earls has never dunked in a game. I know what I'm talking about. Academics are the most important. I hope all of these players get to play in college or at least get their college degree.

Wldcatfan I respect your opinion because we are all entitled to but you said you watch Demetrius play in elementary. What school did watch him play for?

Believe it was AAU ball in 6th grade unless I got the year wrong. Demetrius seems like a fine young man.

Slow down and let's not put the cart before the horse. From my understanding he has enrolled in Holmes for the upcoming year and his parents have moved into the school district which Holmes is in. With that said he still has to be cleared by the KHSAA to have met the eligibity rules regarding transfers. Until that time he's not a member of the basketball team officially. Will he get ruled eligible? Probably yes but we'll have to wait and see after the school sends in his transfer request for varsity eligibility. Until then he is just a student who will be attending Holmes High School. (If you don't think the KHSAA can make a mess of things just ask Scott Co. about last year)

Or Clark County!

Bet that was tongue-in-cheek, but Holmes' has one of the best academic programs in KY.

I heard this would be official "in a few days" last Thursday. I don't know anything about the kid, but I hope he's able to play basketball.

Right up there with Highlands and Beechwood

Right up there with Highlands and Beechwood

Ok before all the sarcastic academic statements keep coming to the front academic programs is what Col. Crazy stated not test scores. Holmes has the best IB program in the state and has several other high academic programs that you will not find at some of the high test score schools.

Now I am sure transfers happen for a lot of reasons but......................Holmes does have academic offerings that are at a higher level than some of your "respected high test score schools."

Fair enough...just seems that Boone Girls and Holmes Boys land transfers in this sport year in and year out....

Just like Highlands, Beechwood and CovCath get transfers in football each year. As a Holmes grad, I love seeing their success in basketball. I prefer this to come with homegrown talent, but you can't fault parents who look out for the best interest of their children. I wish Demetrius and his family success, as they join a basketball monster program this coming season.
