July 22, 200917 yr Author My father in law introduced me to them, he has one of the Callaway's. I decided to go with the cheaper Izzo. The Izzo simply tells you the front, center, back of the green distances. I got it for $100 (retails for $150) while most the others I saw were in the $250 and up range.
July 25, 200917 yr Not all players can afford such devices. Is that fair that the playing field in a tournament can be skewed because of devices? In HS, you might have a school/rich parent that could afford to equip all the players with one while a poorer school could not. Is that such an unfair advantage to allow IN THE TOURNAMENT. Equipment to use in practice is another thing. But in the actual playing time, I don't think it is a fair option. Until the prices come down and they affordable to all, not sure that they should be allowed. Good points coach. What about college players?
July 25, 200917 yr Good points coach. What about college players? At first I would say no because they aren't allowed in the professional level but some many of them have the course laid out by caddies and they know down to the yard how far they are out from some little book. I say yes on DI and DII. DIII I go back to would the schools be able to afford them for their players?
July 27, 200917 yr I just bought one the other day. I know that we have some golfers on BGP and I was wondering if anybody else had one and if it helped their game any. what are you doing with a golf gps? I didnt think you really played gold that much? Well now that I guess you do we definitely should get together more to hit the links. If the wifey plays as well....so does mine(dont recommend it though, cant enjoy it as much:D)
July 27, 200917 yr How exactly do they work. Do they have every course in KY or do you have to load the course you want? How much are they if you don't mind me asking. I am thinking about buying one. Depending on detailed they are they will telling for example... Your standing on the tee box on hole #1 at coarse XYZ. It will tell you the distance to the fairway bunkers, the front, middle, back of the green, the lake on the left, what ever. You hit your tee shot and go to your ball. It will tell the distance to the front, middle, and back of green, distance to the bunker on the left of the green, ect. The lower end models don't go as indepth. I think they just tell you distance to green. I believe the Calloway model will show you an actual arial pic of the hole.

July 27, 200917 yr I dont have one but my usual playing partner does so I might as well have one. I love them, saves you so much time from having to guess or look for yardage markers and you get a pretty accurate distance. Really like knowing how far I have to carry bunkers and water and how far to the end of the fairway on holes. Sucks whenever I have to play without one now. It also ruins most of my excuses. :irked:
July 28, 200917 yr Craig Stadler couldn't kneel on a 99 cent towel, but folks will be able to use GPS in competition? I'm not crazy about it. Caddies will be reduced to draft horses that lug clubs around the course. Especially when someone comes up with the GGPS (Greens GPS).
August 2, 200917 yr Played on a course yesterday that I was unfamiliar and one of my friends dad was using one and sometimes the pin was 20 yards different than listed. It was definately the difference between a 9 iron and an 8.
