Speaking of an overly glaring generalization, or taking something from someone's post that isn't there. There are obviously children that are sexually abused all the time, but you can bet your bottom dollar if this had been a heterosexual white man, selling his adopted black child for sex, it would have been all over the news just like Royal Uncle stated. There is a reason that the liberal media didn't run with this story, and I think it's fairly obvious why.

I disagree. Sure, kids get molested all the time. How often do you hear of adults essentially trading the kids off to others in exchange for sex? There's where the weirdness comes from. The fact that it's a college professor as opposed to some run-of-the-mill weirdo adds to it, and the prof in question is a quasi-public figure (you overlooked the "quasi-" part of it before) who reporters go to for comments on health issues.

 

From a news standpoint, it's quite unique, and that's why it passes muster as a larger news item.

The main stream media is as left as it gets. This story would do great damage to gay adoption in this country. The media is not going to do something that would cause harm to their lefty liberal brethren. If this was a white conservative heterosexual couple charged with doing this to an adopted black child, they would be crucified on TV. The ACLU would be involved. Black groups would be saying whites shouldn't adopt blacks. And their church would be looked into as a cause of their actions. But since this guy is homosexual, no one is going to touch this.

It sounds like in this instance, there is substantial police evidence instead of Gomer Pyle making a citizen's arrest. A gay white man, molests his adopted black son and offers to sell him for sex online...

Oh, i forgot how much America is fascinated with Lacrosse. I would say the race issue had more to do with it than anything. I agree with Jim, This should be a very national news story. The problem is that it does not fit the template.

What 5W said has a lot of merit. Stories often get overshadowed when a bigger story comes along. And those two have been big-time blockbusters, at least as far as the TV folks are concerned.

 

Otherwise, I'm not quite sure. What makes for a great news story on TV can be far different from what makes it onto the pages of the newspapers and NPR. I long ago gave up trying to understand the thought process of TV news editors.

In that case, it was one woman's word and those guys were nailed to the cross...turns out, there was nothing there. She was just a loon. But, because she was black and they were priveleged white men, the media pounced, the campus protested, and their lives were ruined. But, that's OK because no one has to answer for anything here...

 

And, of course, the news cycle at the time, which currently involves Michael Jackson and Sarah Palin...but has also included North Korea, Iran, etc.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree wholeheartedly. It may not be a national story in terms of the number of people affected, but it certainly qualifies because of the weirdness factor coupled with the fact that person in question is a quasi-public figure. His high-profile position makes it a bigger story than your average molestation bust.
