June 27, 200917 yr The Memphis Grizzlie turned down Michael Beasley for the 2nd pick last night and Mario Chalmers for the 27th pick. Interesting decisions... http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_memphis_edge/2009/06/griz-fail-to-land-randolph-and-much-more.html
June 27, 200917 yr What does Beasley or Chalmers add to them that Hasheem Thabeet and Demaree Carroll don't? Beasley rebounds better than Rudy Gay, but is no where near as good as him in anything else and they already have a sub par young Point Guard...I think the Grizzlies are going to be fine if their Point Guard situation straightens out.
June 27, 200917 yr Author I don't know - I believe I'd take Beasely over Thabeet, but Hasheem might prove me wrong. I just talked to Dan Wolken of the Memphis Commerical-Appeal and he is all torn up about it.
June 27, 200917 yr Beasley has more talent than Tabeet but the Grizz didn't need him. They need a defensive presence inside, as Gasol, Mayo and Gay can provide the points. Also what does Chalmers add that Conley or other Grizz PG's don't?
June 27, 200917 yr Author Here are Dan Wolken's thoughts on it: "i have no idea if that's true, but if they turned down beasley to draft thabeet it's shameful" 2 minutes ago
June 27, 200917 yr They need a inside presence more than Beasley. Beasley didn't exactly light it up last year either.

ANd I like Beasley and cannot stand Thabeet. They need a inside presence more than Beasley. Beasley didn't exactly light it up last year either. :thumb: I agree.
June 27, 200917 yr Getting Thabeet I have no problem with he will do what he did in college and average 200 blocks a game - but is his footwork good enough to score against NBA centers - or maybe he can just shoot right over people. I would have liked to see Chalmers go, but I like Carroll, he is a beast.
June 27, 200917 yr Quite frankly, I have had no faith in any action Memphis has taken since they got rid of Gasol for essentially nothing. It was especially dubious given it was Jerry West and L.A. involved. I think that moron cares more about the Lakers than his own team.
June 27, 200917 yr They did it to dump salary and nothing more. Just like the Cavs just got Shaq for nothing. It was all about the money.

Shaq is washed up, Gasol at the time was 27 and entering the prime of his career. It was still incredibly stupid IMO and turned L.A. from a mid-range Western Conference team into the best team in that conference.

Makes sense though, if you have to let your best player go wouldn't you want to make a deal with your friends? Still garbage, but I don't think there is anything the league can do to stop it. If you want to trade your best player in franchise history for garbage do it.
June 28, 200917 yr It's not as though the Grizzlies were going to win titles any time soon even if Gasol was there.
