July 7, 200917 yr Been listening to a lot of Blind Melon lately. Real good early to mid 90's band that gets overlooked. Most people know their song "No Rain" and that's about it. However they are a lot more than that and they have a very nice sound with a lot of passion and soul behind the music. Like most bands of the era lead vocalist Shannon Hoon passed away at around the peak of the band's success. Some songs of their's I recommend for those who may be interested are "Blister In The Sun", "Change", "Time", "I wonder", and most likely my favorite, "Walk". If your in to some real solid grass, roots music then this should be up your alley. Hopefully you guys take a listen because musically they are a great band. Haven't listened much lately but a guy I always try to push is Ben Kweller, he is one of my personal favorites. He is a relatively new act only being around for a few years, but his type of music plays more into some classic rock, folk, etc. Another with a totally different sound I always try to push is Down. These guys have such a tight sound it makes you cringe. The way all their music comes together as one is just unreal. If you like that type of music and have never listened then you are in for a treat. The type of music is like New Age Southern Rock, Southern Metal. I've picked up my Janes Addiction intake, I guess cause its getting close to Lollapalooza, so the same can be said about Tool (even though they always get regular play in my systems and iPods.) Went on hard kicks a long time ago but I'm starting to take some more kicks with Radiohead, Primus, and Smashing Pumpkins. Last band I've been getting into a lot is Umphrey's McGee.
July 7, 200917 yr Jim - I was strolling down Pearl St in Boulder, CO recently and came across a vinyl shop. I don't know what it says that your name popped into my head. BTW, while I don't truly KNOW you, my guess is that you and Boulder would be a great fit.
July 7, 200917 yr I assume I am greatly out of touch if I don't recognize any of the bands in this thread outside some of the older ones listed in the opening post? I mean, seriously, I recognize none of them. I sometimes even wonder if half the names are just made up and don't really exist.

There's a lot of them I've never heard or never heard of. And I'm an avowed music junkie.
July 7, 200917 yr My love for music has diminished. I used to constantly listen to new stuff, mostly stuff that wasn't mainstream. Now, I only listen while driving, and I basically rotate between The Mars Volta, The Shins, and Modest Mouse, or worse, O.A.R. and Dave Matthews Band. It's not that I don't like their music- I do- it is just that I've become the stereotypical college music fan that the me of 2 years ago would have disapproved of. :ohbrother: Add in the fact that the only rap I'll listen to is Lil Wayne, and the only (so-called) country I'll listen to is Brad Paisley and the song "Chicken Fried", I've become the anti-Jim.
July 7, 200917 yr New ones that I have picked up are the new Killswitch Engage's self titled album, Lazarus AD' "The Onslaught", Maylene and the Sons of Disaster's "III", and The Last Vegas. All great bands.
