June 28, 200917 yr It depends I guess on what is considered a good start. I would take 7 innings and 3 runs every time from him and it is at the least a quality start, but they wouldn't win a ton of those games. We're not going to count the 2 inning start right? 33 2/3 giving up 19 eaned runs 21 total runs since the rain delay and that's counting the 2 innings. It's not his fault if the team doesn't win a game in which he goes 7 innings and gives up 3 runs. That's a quality start, simple as that. Why not make a big deal about his bad starts before the rain delay? He had bad starts then too...
June 28, 200917 yr I don't know anyone else's opinion on Bruce, but I personally can't stand him. I can't stand anyone batting .214 when being a top prospect.

He did have a HUGE amount of hype around him when he came up though, very similar to Longoria with the Rays. After his first few weeks a lot of Reds fans, including a bunch on here, were talking about All-Star teams, MVPs, Homerun Titles etc sooner rather than later for him. Thus far he hasn't come close to living up to the hype. He does have excellent power but shows little knowledge of the strikezone or the other aspects of hitting. He isn't a bust but he'll have to really improve in a lot of areas to be the MVP type player Reds fans expect of him.

If he's still hitting .220 in the next few years then he may very well be the next Adam Dunn. But it's to early to label him that yet.

He's got 167 strikeouts and only 63 walks in 179 games and while he has 39 homers in those games he's only got 27 doubles and 160 total hits. At least if he does end up being an all or nothing type player he is a good outfielder and has a very good arm. Its too early to call him a bust but there are some things to be concerned about.

That is the problem with youth. The Rangers have a kid named Davis same issue. But if they figure it out there going to be all-stars.
