June 23, 200917 yr The divorce rate for parents of multiples is MUCH higher than for other couples. From the beginning of the show, you could see the stress that they were under caring for the kids. Kate was overbearing right at the beginning and Jon did not stand up for himself. It seems that they are both to blame for the state of their marriage. Honestly, I'm not sure of how much a factor that the money played into it. The show had way more to do with this then them having multiples.
June 23, 200917 yr I agree that Kate is controlling and walks all over Jon, but I can’t help but feel like Jon just doesn’t want to live up to his reasonability as a father and wants to live the single life. Obviously there is more to the story then what we see on TV and as is the case in most divorces, I’m sure both parents bear some responsibility for their marital issues. However, Jon seems to want to “do guy things” and party.
June 23, 200917 yr I do not watch the show but I have followed the reports on The Today Show and in People magazine and the like and it is just a sad story; no matter who is to blame.
June 23, 200917 yr So you don't think the money and fame had anything to do with this? I think it has great value in the dissolution of the marriage. It is kind of like an algebra equation, money and fame is the answer to x, it completes the the problem and thus gives you an answer.
June 23, 200917 yr So you don't think the money and fame had anything to do with this? That's NOT what I said. My words were, "I don't know how much of a factor that the show played into it." You stated that the show had MUCH more to do with it than the multiples did. I guess it's the P/R poster in me coming out, but what proof do you have? If it's opinion, that's fine. I have some personal examples to support mine. I had two different friends that each got pregnant through IVF. Each gave birth to triplets. Within five years, each was divorced. I'm certain the show had something to do with it. I know that the stress from trying to raise the multiples played a part, though I know several parents of multiples that have successfully raised their children just fine. Other factors, some that we aren't aware of, probably played a part, too.

On top of that the divorce rate in this country is at something like 50%. These two morons had all the cards stacked against them to start with. But hey, I guess they got rich out of it. I am not saying having all those kids wouldn't add to the stress but I am putting my money on the show being the biggest reason.
June 23, 200917 yr The fame hurt them. Her being a pain in the rear hurt them. I think it's easy to judge but unless you've had 8 kids under the age of 12 or whatever they are you don't know what it's like. My older sis is still married and had triplets. Our government gives all these free handouts to lazy folks that don't want to work. My sis and her husband teach and had to do a lot of scraping to live. They are the kind of people our government should be helping but that's another subject. Point is that it's hard having kids but having that many at once is a set of problems most don't have a clue about. Add onto that her personality, the fame etc and it's a mess! There is a part of me that felt like it could be for ratings because you never know about people anymore.
June 23, 200917 yr After the divorce, I want to see them get competing shows. "Jon and a date, plus eight" -- Watch as Jon takes a date and the eight kids to Chucky Cheese. Will there be a second date? "Kate is Late, Here comes Nine" -- I think the title speaks for itself.
June 24, 200917 yr I'd hate to see how much he will have to pay in child support each month. I haven't thought of that... OUCH! :ohbrother:

June 24, 200917 yr Unfortunately, this year's show has changed from it being about the kids and raising them to this is what we got free or where we are traveling to this week. Show and marriage was better when the focus was on the family than it is about their fame and all the free things they get.

Show and marriage was better when the focus was on the family than it is about their fame and all the free things they get. Isn't this so true even in the lives of the traditional family sitting? Marriage and raising a family is hard enough without the added distractions brought upon Jon and Kate and the kids via tv coverage and tabloid media. And yes, I know they signed on for this and seem to be enjoying the money and fame but this is one of the underlying reasons they are divorcing.
