Jon & Kate Getting a Divorce?

Featured Replies

I'd hate to see how much he will have to pay in child support each month.

Considering that he is unemployed it could be pretty tough.

Isn't this so true even in the lives of the traditional family sitting? Marriage and raising a family is hard enough without the added distractions brought upon Jon and Kate and the kids via tv coverage and tabloid media. And yes, I know they signed on for this and seem to be enjoying the money and fame but this is one of the underlying reasons they are divorcing.

Well since I am not getting free solar panels one week, free crooked houses another, visits from Emeril and free birthday cakes baked for me, I don't think it is.

We liked the show when it was about the kids and not a 30-minute informercial for something.

I didn't get to watch the show Monday night, but they had a rerun of it last night. You could really see the pain that each of them were going through with this issue, regardless of what the causes.

I think woodsrider asked about how many couples have their own reality show and have survived marriage. One that comes to mind (and came on directly after the rerun last night) - the Duggers from "Eighteen Kids and Counting." This show is about an Arkansas family that has children ranging from 20 years to 6 months, including two sets of twins. I've watched this show for long time and have always liked it much more than "Plus 8" because you've always been able to feel the love between the couple and their children. They are a very conservative, religious family, but it's apparent how much that the couple loves each other and how they make time for each other (well...I guess the 18 kids are evidence of that, too :D) I've heard the father and mother mention several times how important it was that they make time for each other and not just for the kids and how they were each other's best friend. Of course, they never had 8 kids age 6 and under, with 6 in diapers. They never had IVF, either. I think that this couple would have made it through it, though.

Many people villianize Kate and honestly, I've never been a fan of her myself. However, I think she totally focused on the kids and how Jon needed to help her and got to where she would resent Jon for not helping as much or how she wanted him to. It always seemed like he did what he did out of obligation and resented Kate for asking him to help. I think they put too much emphasis on the kids and too little on each other as a couple...and the result was a situation destined for trouble. Add in the show, and it was almost a forgone conclusion.

She focused on the kids as long as it was HER VISION of what the kids needed. It seemed to be a one person power play and when he begun to buck that system, problems began. As he said on Monday's show, he stayed quiet for too long and just accepted things as is.

LBBC's input: It should be a joint venture in raising children and this has not been and both are at fault. Him for not standing up and being a partner in the decision making and her for not allowing him to be a partner and then taking shot after shot after shot at him for not being what she thought he should be.

Personally, as a child, I would have preferred the houses where he was putting them and not where she did. She said it was all about the children but there was no footage of where the children wanted them. Only where Jon did and where Kate did.

She said it was nice to have the teamwork back as they shuttled children in and out of the restaurant but that was simply him doing what she wanted and was not teamwork. To his credit, he did stand there with the umbrella over her while she was getting into the van, so she wouldn't get wet. Most divorcing fathers, I would guess, wouldn't have done that.

His holding in his feelings and lack of communication has been a major problem.

As to the bolded, that's why I said that she "would resent Jon for not helping as much or how she wanted him to."

It actually brought tears to my eyes when I saw him shield her with his umbrella. There's still love there. Dare I hope that it could still work out?

Caring, yes.

Love, I am not sure.

Willingness to work it out, I don't think so.

I agree that Kate is controlling and walks all over Jon, but I can’t help but feel like Jon just doesn’t want to live up to his reasonability as a father and wants to live the single life. Obviously there is more to the story then what we see on TV and as is the case in most divorces, I’m sure both parents bear some responsibility for their marital issues. However, Jon seems to want to “do guy things” and party.

My wife said there was an announcement today that there would be no new shows till August as Jon & Kate traverse this difficult time in their lives.

I heard this today too.

Why would he have to pay?

This is what I meant. The job of raising a family and trying to do all that it takes is hard enough without being in Jon and Kates shoes. Then the show changed to include "endorsements". Advertisers saw an easy way to help out the family and get a lot of business. Right or wrong, this family has suffered from the media and money along with their own issues. Again I say, I have never watched one minute of this show. However, the tv media and print media keeps us informed.
