I am a frequent TrailBlazer basher and while this doesn't put them in the Lakers/Spurs/Nuggets discussion for me, they did at least answer the point guard question mark. Now if they could just get Oden some artificial knees, I might be a little worried.

Oden is always injured but he has some talent, and they have some nice role players around them. Blazers won't win the title, but I think they may end up being the 3rd best team in the West after LA and SA. Yes, I think they COULD pass the Nuggets. Miller is a nice addition because they needed some production at the Point, but he isn't the kind of player that automatically takes you to the next level.

July 27, 200917 yr They should have saved the money. Why? They won't have capspace anytime in the near future. They had to spend that money this offseason, or let it go to waste. WHY? Because they are in extension talks with both Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge. Only two seasons of Millers deal are guaranteed, so who could they have gotten that would have served them better? David Lee, Millsap, and Odom don't fit their needs. Turkoglu could have worked, but I think they lose to much for the future by signing him. He wanted a long term deal, that would have been bad news, because 4 years from know Turkoglu will be past his prime, and the Blazers would have won zero titles for a large, long term investment. Miller fills a need, comes pretty cheap, and is only a short-timer. He will allow their many youngsters to grow into season veterans while not ending their chances at adding pieces when Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Fernandez and Co. are in their primes. With Paul Allen as an owner, it's not like they have to save money.
July 28, 200917 yr New Orleans just got Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. I don't know that it really helps either team. I don't know that Okafor will be better with CP3 than Chandler was, and I don't think Chandler is worth the risk for the Bobcats. Chandler needs a good pick and roll ball handler to set him up at the basket. Felton may be capable, but then who is to say that Chandler doesn't get hurt again. I just don't understand it, N.O. wanted luxary tax relief, so they took a guy who still has a big contract and has more years on his deal.

Roy does need the ball in his hands alot because of his playmaking, and I don't think Andre Miller will change that. The Blazers will probably run alot of odd lineups on the court this season.

Good for them. They aren't as good as at least 3 teams in the West and this does nothing to make it closer. Why waste the money? Especially when your best player has to have the ball in his hands to be successful. They spent the money b/c they could not b/c they got a lot better.

So two offseasons from now, when a team wants to unload a player because of salary, they Blazers can trade for him and that team can take Miller and waive him clearing cap room. Standing pat on that money made zero since, it probably helps the Blazers just a little, and in the future it could bring something really nice. The Blazers protected their future in this signing.

Siging a guy to a big contract thinking of who you're going to be able to trade for him a few years into the future isn't the best strategy IMO, but we shall see. You may very well end up beong correct. Why wouldn't it be a good strategy. How many teams will be over the salary cap or luxury tax in two years? 15? 20? Teams that have no shot of making the playoffs/championship will want to dump salary ala the Suns this offseason. The salary cap is getting smaller as well.
