June 17, 200917 yr Jermaine Dye is coming to town this weekend. All he'd have to do is change dugouts. If they trade Harang or Arroyo that would free up millions.
June 18, 200917 yr It's an interesting quandry because the Nationals have some working parts the Reds could use, but after the grievance was filed over the Kearns/Majewski trade, one wonders if the Reds would try another trade even with the absence of Jim Bowden. Who do the Nationals have that you like? I could see a deal being worked for Zimmerman, but I don't know if the Reds have enough washed up "5 tool players" for the Nats to bite.
June 18, 200917 yr You mean a power bat like Adam Dunn? :-) Really though, they do need to make a push. Holliday will be dealt by July 31st. Bring him in. Jermaine Dye would also be a nice addition, as would Aubrey Huff, who I think could turn things around with a change of scenery. Aubrey Huff had a huge year last year. What good would a change of scenery do him? Plus, he's a left handed bat. He's not the answer, IMO. Jermaine Dye is coming to town this weekend. All he'd have to do is change dugouts. If they trade Harang or Arroyo that would free up millions. The Jermaine Dye trade talks are a thing of the past. And Dye makes more money than Arroyo. The only way that would free up any money is if / when the Reds let Dye walk at the end of the year....which would make any realistic trade for him a horrible one, IMO.

If the Sox trade Dye it will be to get younger and less expensive anyway. They would want at least Homer.
June 18, 200917 yr Maybe he should start having Owings take some ground balls at 3B. He has the bat to play daily,(IMO the best bat outside of Votto) he definately has the arm, and in HS which I know is a long way from the MLB he played short so he is athletic enough. This would allow the Reds to trade E-5 for some prospects or let him play left where he had some minor league experience and his inaccurate arm isn't as much of a cancer. (If it worked out) It would also open a spot for Homer to pitch if he can keep going how he is now. This of course wouldn't happen until next year at the earliest. That switch in the bigs is way to extreme for the middle of the season. Also before everyone bashes me, this is a hypothetical although I do believe it is one they should investigate.

One advantage of that kind of trade would be unloading Arroyo and his salary next year. If Dye comes and wins plus enjoys being a RED he might take less. I don't think he's gonna get a four or five year contract anywhere. Manny Ramirez recieved two years and see how that worked out. The Reds need a good bat and a experienced leader.

Just for the record, Edwin has never played OF in a game before.
June 18, 200917 yr The Phillies need a starter with Meyers going out for the year most likely. Trade a starter and Tavares for Victirino(sp?). It's a start.

June 19, 200917 yr Just for the record, Edwin has never played OF in a game before. In the pro's, I went and watched him play atlest 1 inning of it while I went to a game down Louisville.
