Bizarre Death at Herrington Lake Today

Featured Replies

Bizarre is an understatement to this story. It blows my mind that prisoners in a medium security prison have fishing trips. I must admit that I have a problem with prisoners from a minimum security prison having this priviledge.

Define irony...a well-respected doctor pushes his wife off a boat and kills her by running her over with the propellor; two felon inmates on a fishing trip witness the whole thing and are the primary witnesses in the murder investigation.

"Isn't it ironic, don't you think..."

I'm pretty sure Northpoint is only a medium security prison. I would assume that prisoners on good behavior may be able to go to the lake to fish. I don't know if it's the case at Northpoint, but I know at Eddyville, certain prisoners that had good behavior actually lived in houses just outside the perimeter fences. Obviously still supervised, but not behind the fence.

I think Northpoint's grounds stretch down to the lake if I'm not mistaken. I would guess these men are guarded but this is a form of recreation. I don't think this was Andy and Opie strolling down the lane to the fishin' hole.

Do the inmates get real beer while fishing or some sort of knock off brew?

The whole story is weird, but the fishing inmates thing is beyond strange. If, for some reason, I ever get weekend detentions, sign me up for the fishing/ski trips/King's Island jail.....

The house sleeps 7 comfortably, or approx. 23 if drunk so we need to get you, AA, Jim, Hearsay and any other interested persons together for a LAKE PARRRRRRRRTAAAYYYY!!!!!!!!

Dude you know I'm ready...:thumb:

Just no boats or tubing for me...:scared:

Rough week for the Danville area. First, the moron has the incident with the rattlesnake head, now this. I can't wait to see what comes next.

I was just reading the updated story and it really is bizarre:

First of all, the man has confessed to murder. Here are some quotes from the article:

Kitchen said when she asked the caller what had happened, the woman said she had seen a couple fighting on a pontoon boat. The caller told Kitchen the man was chasing the woman around the boat, and the woman was yelling, "Somebody please help me, please help me! He's going to kill me!"

Kitchen said the caller told her the man then threw the woman overboard and ran her over with the boat. The caller then said, "Oh dear God, hurry up! He's trying to drag her away."

Lanham said that after Isabel Hall was run over, her husband retrieved the body by tying it to the boat. "He had tied her off around her leg or arm to keep her from floating away," the trooper said

Several people gathered near the dock area to watch Investigators interviewed six or seven witnesses, including two inmates from the Northpoint Training Center Jail, who were fishing on the lake, Lanham said.

Approximately 40 of Northpoint’s more than 1,230 inmates are part of the outside detail unit. Inmates can only be assigned to outside detail if they are classified as minimum custody and have fewer than four years until they go before a parole board or finish their sentence. Inmates also must have their disciplinary, criminal and work histories thoroughly reviewed before they can be assigned to outside detail, according to information from Cochran.

Cochran said Northpoint has not had any attempted escapes from outside detail inmates.

“It gives them a recreational activity to keep them busy in the times that they’re not working,” she said. “It’s mainly a privilege for them to get to do that.”

More on the story (not from the paper, but from people around town):

The doctor was apparently involved in an affair and the wife found out. An intense fight broke out and the result was murder. He shoved her off the boat, ran her over with the propellor, tied her up with rope and drug her across the lake - in front of 7 or so witnesses.
