Just because you are successful in middle school, don't mean you will be at the high school level. No matter what kind of person you are - if you can't teach and relate to the kids, they will not play.

I have seen a lot of middle guys struggle on the high school level because they can't run toss every play and blitz all the time on defense.

Turner played LB on the first Breathitt County football team to go undefeated through the regular season in 1989. I'm pretty sure that was the first Bobcat team to win a game in Death Valley (Belfry).

 

The Pirates exacted their revenge in the second round of the playoffs as Breathitt County finished 11-1. The Bobcats had one of the top defenses in the state that season.

 

Turner has done a pretty solid job in his various coaching stints at Morgan County.

What he did in high school don't even matter. What he has done at the middle school don't matter. Its a totally different game at the high school level. He is a middle school coach and will do ok at the high school level, but I don't see him being as good as Randy Wood, a former coach that lead the team to back to back winning season - playoff berths that you had to earn to get into rather than the 4 team district where you automatically are in the 1st round. Turner had been an assistant under Larry Maggard and quit due to difference coaching philosophies, and then quit after being the head coach and a 3 win season. I don't know if he is capable of not staying longer than a year or 2. He basically walked into a job that they had to hire from within the school system. Once a quitter - always a quitter IMO.

Maybe before when he quit he felt he wasn't ready for that level just yet or had some issues that was nobodies business. So you saying you have never quit anything in your life? If you say no your a liar. Everyone quits something sometime or another. Good luck COACH TURNER.

:thumb: That's what it sounds like to me as well. I am an outsider to the MCHS program but want to wish Coach Turner and Morgan Co. the best of luck in the 09' season and beyond. My opinion is that the best thing that the people of Morgan Co, can do is to get behind their coach and stay positive. Negativity breeds negativity and imo nothing good will come from it.

From the way this thread reads, all but one seems to be favorable of the coahing hire. I can tell you that the last thing that the kids need to hear is negativity and bashing of their coach. After all, it is all about the kids!

 

Morgan Co. players............ther best advice that I can give you is to give your new coach all the heart, hustle and dedication that you have, 110% and then some and all will work out. Listen to your coach and not all of the outside "experts".

I know that I am an outsider to the Morgan program so I apologize if I have spoken where it doesn't belong. Good luck again to Coach Turner and Morgan County football.

Turner will be fine. He is a passionate guy that knows football.
