gold sunrise Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 What does Campbell County need to do to improve in 2009/2010? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.
afi100guy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 The Camels lose a lot with seniors Nerl, Franzen and Albrecht. Brady Jolly is going to be one of the best in the 10th. It will be very interesting to see what the young guys do. I look for sophomores Dalton Griffin and Jeff Skinner and freshman Nate McGovney to compete for playing time. Camels will not have a lot of size but they will be very athletic.

Brossart, Scott and Campbell County appear to be very evenly matched again. Toughest district in the 10th and as in most years a quality team will be sitting home come regional time.
Bird Bath Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 They certainly do lose a lot; but they have Jolly and a young group of talent. They might surprise some people next year. McGovney is going to be a stud before he is through school. It will be interesting to see them develop.

wanttowin Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 McGovney was moved up to Freshman ball as an 8th Grader last year right? That is correct. Also agree with the above--McGovney is a great athlete and should be a great player for the Camels over the next 4 years. Currently, one of the best in the state at his age. Exceptional all around player who does lots of things well and makes other players around him better. Good kid as well.
TubbyCAT Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 McGovney is a tremendous ball player and does seem like a great kid! I think he has a very big-time upside. I have seen him play many times over the last 3 seasons. Wish he would develop a bit more of a killer instinct!

I have seen him play many times over the last 3 seasons. Wish he would develop a bit more of a killer instinct! In watching him over the last few years, he has gotten a little more of this. His personality seems to be low key but he loves to play ball and win! He also excels in the classroom so it makes him a "double threat."
Bird Bath Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 We would love to see him as a bluebird:D; but nice boy from a nice family that plays team ball. A real treat and certainly fun to watch. Xavier (Mack visits) in the future; time will tell. I am sure that these camels with young talent might get over the hump. It had to be said.
The Fireman Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The camels will be very deep next year with 5 seniors and a handful of juniors. They should look to get out and run. They don't have much size but are very fast and athletic. Look for the offense to be ran through the two returning starters Jolly and Smith. They will surprise many because they have improved alot already. Nate Mcgovney will be a tremendus player in the future, but i don't see him contributing much this year for varsity. I could be wrong, hopefully he keeps developing and we might see him in varsity games.
Bird Bath Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Fireman, It looks like you know a lot more about the program; I hope you are right, because in the past the offense was quite boring.

You know you are not going to be able to get out and run on Brossart. That just does not happen. So you have to be able to grind it out against Brossart and then you are going to have to be able to out run and be more athletic than Scott. Does CC have the pieces to be able to do both of those things? Brossart and Campbell both lost a lot of key players but both return some good players.
Cameldiehard Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I am looking forward to the upcoming Camel season. This team may surprise some people. The senior group is under rated. Wolfe, Sinclair and Geiman are all tough kids. If the Camels open their style of play Smith will shine. Neises has as much ability as anyone on the team. Jolly should have a good year. I look for the young guards to add offensive and defensive quickness to the lineup.
clutch0011 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I believe with the pieces that the Camels have in place they could do either, run or grind. With a mix of freshman/sophs and the junior and seniors this could happen. With McGovney and Skinner they can push the ball up the floor when they are in the game and the upperclassman can probably play that grind it out style a little better. As far as McGovney goes, what a kid! He makes great grades and is one of the most talented players in the state for his age. His personality is great and does not walk around with a bloated ego. Hope some college's start taking a look at this kid. Reminds me a lot of his coach last year, Sean Maddy but with more talent. Should be an interesting season.
