nWo Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 We had some very bad weather here in the Richmond area. It is very possible that a tornado passed through earlier. There is damage in the Kirksville area. Also along Duncannon Lane. The fire department on Duncannon lost its roof. There are some houses that were damaged in the Kirksville area roofs have been completley torn off. On hwy 25 towards Berea I saw a van off on the north side of the road. Interstate 75 is almost at a complete stand still due to a multi vehicle accident on the south bound side. When it happened I was looking out my front window and saw the wind blowing the tree in the front yard towards the north then, almost instantly the wind shifted 180 degrees in the opposite directions. There was some hail but we didn't sustain any damage. There are numerous reports of trees down and power outages in our area.
nkuclubbaseball19 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I pray that you, your family, friends and everyone else in the area stay safe nWo.
nWo Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 So far I haven't heard of any injuries. There is no one home but me and my wife. I didn't really realize what was going on until my son called from Lexington asking if Mrs. nWo and myself where ok. The rain was coming down so hard I couldn't see across the street.
nWo Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 According the channel 18 there were some injuries, significant structural damage. Also EKU lost power.
nWo Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 When did Kentucky become a rainforest? I don't know but we have more heavy rain moving in at this very moment.
sixtyfeetsix Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I was headed that way tonight, until I saw the weather reports. And it helped to see your post!
nWo Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 I was headed that way tonight, until I saw the weather reports. And it helped to see your post! It might be best to wait. The officials are asking people to stay home and not be out so they can do their job. There are also numerous stop lights out so traffic is not really moving well in spots. Also the accident on I-75 south is about the 83 mile marker. When I passed that way the vehicles were backed up to exit 87. Waco also received some damage.
gchs_uk9 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 My wife and I were planning on coming to Richmond this evening (from Lancaster), but the weather really scared us away. We heard reports of power outages which would have made the trip worthless. I've driven past Kirksville Elementary a million times and the houses surrounding it are large and very nice. There were also reports of damage to homes on 1295, which is a tight, rural road connecting Garrard County and Madison County. I hate that the damage is so extensive. I hope everyone in both counties are safe and dry this evening.
nWo Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 We have more rain and storms moving through Richmond down to Berea. The more severe storms are south of Berea.
gold sunrise Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Heard on the news tonight that Richmond was hit hard. Glad you are safe.:thumb: Keep us updated on the injuries. Prayers to those in need.
nWo Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 We must have been on the nothern edge of the storm. Also we have line of trees at the back of our property line. This helps to shield our house from strong winds. As soon as I hear any more news I'll post it.
nWo Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 I just went out in my back yard and found a part of my neighbor's privacy fence blown down. My wife called them and I put it back up for them. It looks like the worst of the weather has moved on. I can see the sun starting to come out. I know there are now tornado warnings in Estill, Breathitt, Lee and Jackson Counties.
nWo Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 I think this is from the Kirksville area. That is a motor home laying on the house.
