May 6, 200917 yr She was indeed quite impressive. Wish they had nominated her early. I think she would go in as the fave in the Belmont, even if Mine That Bird was able to win the Preakness (which I think is highly unlikely).
May 6, 200917 yr According to the Daily Racing Form, Rachel Alexandra was just purchased by Jess Jackson, and may be supplemented into the Preakness (fee is $100k). She will be bred to Curlin when her racing career is over, but until then, it appears Steve Asmussen will be training her.
May 14, 200917 yr Borel's decision to ride RA in the Preakness is an interesting one. You're probably right, but I think it's no secret that RA is (arguably) the best horse in the race. If I were in his shoes, I would probably do the same thing.

Yes, she's probably the best runner in the race, but who gets off a Derby winner to ride another horse?!? It has to be someone with an ego as big as Calvin Borel's....:irked: If you don't think he has an ego problem, watch him in the stretch of the Oaks.

I don't think ego has anything to do with it, otherwise he would stay on and try for the triple crown. I just think long term he feels that she offers the chance at more earnings. That and he was only on the derby winner once. I agree with him.

The history of it is what could turn out very strange, especially if MTB wins on Saturday. I guess that is why horses win the triple crown and riders are typically an afterthought. RA is the most consistent performer in the field. I hope she comes through cleanly because I still want to see her race Zenyatta in the Distaff in fall.

May 15, 200917 yr I think Rachel Alexandra is a complete freak. With a good trip, these colts won't touch her. She's special guys, real special. To many people in the business say so. Speaking of ego's, there are no bigger ego's in the business than trainers. They are tight lipped when it comes to giving other horses praise, but not with this horse. Some have said, its the best filly they have seen since Ruffian. I don't recall hearing the same praise for Azeri or Rags to Riches. From what I hear and what I've seen of her, she's special.:notworthy: But as a horse player at 8/5, I wouldn't bet her with your money.
