ColonelCrazy Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Since LRCW hasn't been around in a few days, I'll go ahead & start it... Reds are in Miami for a 2 game series against the Marlins before returning home for a 2 game set against the BrewCrew & a weekend series against the Cardinals. Another big week for the Reds.
ColonelCrazy Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Great pitching matchup tonight as Aaron Harang goes against Josh Johnson.
ColonelCrazy Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 The Reds are tied for 2nd with the Cubs, both 3.5 games behind the Cards. St Louis - 17 - 8 Chicago - 13 - 11 (3.5 back) Cincinnati - 13 - 11 (3.5 back) Milwaukee - 13 - 12 (4 back) Pittsburgh - 12 - 12 (4.5 back) Lastros - 11 - 14 (6 back). The Marlins are in 1st in the NL East by .5 games (ahead of the Phils.) Marlins have lost 3 in a row & are 3-7 in their last 10. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp
LCPATS Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The Big Road Machine needs a split in Miami, then they need to figure out how to win in GABP. It would help to come home to some nice weather, and they seems to be the case.
malachicrunch Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Big week indeed. These are the types of weeks where an either good or bad week can define a season. An 0-7 or 1-6 week is devastating. On the other hand an opposite 7-0 or 6-1 can catapault the team into a strong position. Personally 4-3 would be great. Go Reds!

On the other hand an opposite 7-0 or 6-1 can catapault the team into a strong position. Personally 4-3 would be great. Go Reds! Tonight is big, IMO. We've got our ace on the hill. We've facing a very good young pitcher in Johnson. Marlins have been struggling lately. Let's keep the momentum rolling...
ColonelCrazy Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 The biggest difference between this Reds team and teams of the past, to me, is the pitching staff. In the past, it has been crucial for Harang (or whoever our "ace" was) to win their starts. If they didn't, then we'd have to rely on a sub-par pitcher to pull out a W. Now, we have 5 legitimate starters. Owings isn't the best 5th starter, but he has had a solid start to the season with a few bad breaks mixed in. It's comforting to see that, in our 2 game series with the Marlins, we'll be running Aaron Harangatang & Volquez out to the mound...

HammerTime Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 If we have a losing week it is obviously going to be CC's fault.
formerkywrestler Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Harang is historically awful against the Marlins. This from ESPN: "Aaron Harang has an unseemly 6.70 ERA in eight starts against the Marlins, thanks to allowing an outrageous 12 home runs in 42 2/3 innings. Dan Uggla, Hanley Ramirez, Jeremy Hermida and even Wes Helms are among those who have gone yard off of Harang, and with his overwhelmingly poor track record, you're better off leaving him on the bench." I'm hoping for history to continue!
super Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The Reds pitching is now 4th in NL with a ERA of 3.91. Now when was the last time that the Reds pitchers had a ERA of under 4? Their BA is .241 and going up.
