From what I hear Conner's JV team has struggled all year with something like 4 or 5 wins this season and over 10 losses.

 

If this is indeed accurate, they caught a nice break in the tourney setup by getting a first round bye.

 

Unfortunately, it is accurate. Their current record is 5-11 and they have struggled to close out games all year, including two 1-run losses to Ryle. Hopefully the good draw in the tournament will give them a little bit of momentum.

Hasn't Conner had a few players get "called up" to the varsity?

Im going Lloyd and *St Henry in the lower bracket, Nex cath and Campbell in the Upper...* this could be Ryle after I see them next week....Upper part of lower bracket is the toughest....the team that comes out of there will be have played 2 or 3 tough games....Campbell Co still the team to beat...

I'm sure the 2007 team that went to state would disagree. Last year's team was a disappointment, but this year's team has competed well over a very tough schedule. I'm sure your comment is slightly biased . . . .

 

Biased in what way? I have nothing against Ryle. They just always seem to have a stacked JV team... Literally every year. I didn't mean that to be a shot at their varsity squad, but they aren't exactly a powerhouse at the varsity level like the JV team might lead you to believe.

I would submit that Ryle has had as strong a varsity program overall in the 2000's as anyone, save for those two schools. At the end of the day, NKY is pretty balanced overall and it's tough for any one school to remain on top for any great length of time.

I would agree with you 100%. My point was it's weird how dominant they are at the JV level considering how balanced it is on the varsity level. They have a fine varsity team, but their JV is always dominant it seems.

I would not count out Dixie just yet, as it depends which team shows up. The team that run ruled St. Henry and battled Campbell and came up just short or the team that was run ruled by St. Henry and Cov Cath this week. It would not shock me if they lost in the first round or if they ended up coming out of the lower bracket.

 

Not an easy team to watch game to game.

With student athletes at this age you never know what "team" is going to show up.

 

Sleepers:

Holy Cross has a good hitting team and Brossart is much improved from the start of the season and Scott with a couple of big bats and decent pitching could make a run.

 

Outside Factors:

All depends on the what the Varsity team is doing (if they pull JV guys up during the JV tourney to pitch run or because of injuries...it will happen) and also if some of the JV teams bring guys back down, who have mostly played Varsity, just to play in the JV tourney (hope that does not happen as the guys you have been the JV guys should be the ones playing in it).

 

Let's just hope the rain stays away so they can actually get a good week of weather to play this thing....

 

Overall Picks to win it (I've got 3) I think the Upper Bracket is the stronger bracket:

NCC - strong team all the way around, good "D", not really a power hitting team but will swing the bats from top to bottom of the line-up.

 

Cov.Cath - always fundmentally sound, will do what it takes (small ball, hit-n-run, etc) to win. Coach Michels will have them ready.

 

Campbell Co. - I believe they are 13-0 thus far...solid pitching, good sticks...if they play good "D" they are hard to beat.

Brossart's JV team has beaten both Cov Cath and NCC. Campbell County's JV are very good. Brossart lost to them twice in the beginning of the season.

I couldn't agree more, theres no way of really predicting because the teams will definately have some roster changes....which I agree is unfortunate.

Is this in fact accurate? I was told last night that the draw hasn't happened yet and is supposed to be this weekend. Can anyone confirm this?

The JV draw was last week and the matchups listed are correct.

 

There will be 4 games on Saturday 5/9. The rest of the 1st round games will be on Monday 5/11.

WOW....Lloyd will be lucky to get out of the first round...lol....they better start hitting the ball or they will be in trouble....consecutive loses to Conner and Ryle where bad...they looked overpowered at the plate and bad defense.....I still think the upper part of the lower bracket is the tuffest...lets go juggs

I like Holy Cross. They can hit and their pitching staff is deep. They also are well coached.

Same here with the talent that they have especially with Ritter and Broering in the infield they look good. Lots of young guys but should have a nice showing.
