Bracken County Job Opening

Featured Replies

Willydidit is right about Coach Stevens he did not stick around. I liked Coach Stevens but I feel the AD made the right decision between the two.Who knows who the cadidates are because this just opened up Wednesday. I am sure one who hates to see Coach Jones leave but it is his decision. I just hope we can get a dependable and knowledgable coach soon.

A lot of interviews and decisions to be made at BCHS over the next several weeks for multiple sports and multiple grades depending on how the chips fall on the hires that are made.

GoAheadandjump we have always had a coach from the NKy area until Coach Jones was hired in Jan 09

The middle school has had approx. 60 kids the last 2 years, they have had winning seasons the last 2 years, the last being district champions defeating Frankfort, Emince in the playoffs. This program is not dead, maybe coach Breeze and coach May should coach the varsity team they seem to do a good job with the kids in the middle school.

BornBCHS that is not true. Joe Felice was the first coach and he was from Mason Co. And if you re read my post I said local administrators ruining the program NOT local football coaches. You cannot keep coaches and people from out side the county when you treat them the way they are treated.

Boy when it rains it pours. Again the administrative support is horrible and quite frankly this program has been doomed for the last several years. Keep in mind when this program was started it was started by northern kentucky guys who knew what they were doing. In fact in year one of varsity I believe Bracken won 3 games......but since the county has gone to as many local administrators as they can the program has fallen off the table. Does not matter who takes over.........this is a dead program.

Don't be so pessimistic. With the right coach and a change in philosophy by the administrators (Hint: that will take football supporters showing up at multiple school board meetings and raising Cain), it can be turned around. I hope it does.

Middle School ball and High School Ball is totally different from preparation, game planning, schemes, etc. Not saying some middle school coaches wouldnt do a good job, but success at the middle school level definitely doesnt mean success at the high school level.

The problem with BCHS football is none of your athletes are playing once they reach high school for whatever the reason. Looking at the players they have now none of them play anything else, now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that but in a small school like Bracken you have to have your 2 or 3 sport athlete playing.

Brackens MS Coaching staff has taken a program that was winless in 5 years straight to district champions in 3 years. I know that HS ball and MS ball are totally different but these guys seem to have the right idea and have created a winning attitude down at that level. They have had the same coaches for the last three years now going on 4 so they seem to have at least the know how on how to rebuild a program. The problem Bracken has is these players that move up seem to not stick with football once they get to the HS. If they play hard for the MS coaches why cant the HS coaches keep them. All I can say is good luck to the high school program and keep up the good work at the MS program.

Lets not get to excited about middle school football in that district. Frankfort's middle school is under construction from the dead. So put a lot of stock in beating that team. Now this season they should be much improved.

Just curious....does anyone know how a place like Bracken Co. came up with the idea to be the "Polar Bears"?

One of the greatest of the KY mascot mysteries...

The problem with the program started with its inception. The administration at the time had no idea what they were doing and/or how to run a football program. They should have started building this thing from the ground up and with all details covered.

Whoever was a part of that administration should really screwed the pooch on this whole program, thus the reason why they continue to keep struggling and probably always will!

With all that said...I hope they find a quality coach, maybe a young guy that will really get out there and work hard, instill some pride in those kids, and do all the intangibles that should have started day1. Good luck Polar Bears

By the way...rumor has it that Brian Simmons (a Walton assistant) maybe getting offered this position..any insight to that?

Many years ago the Brooksville(now Bracken) basketball team practiced in an ice house. thus they became Polar Bears.

Wow :puke: If you had any idea what you were talking about somebody might take these comments seriously. First Howard Hall had a vision and built facilities before the first game was even played. Joe Felice from Mason County was the first coach and they started in the middle school. They played three years before playing a varsity game. How else would you have them do it? In fact they won 3 games the first season. The next two superintendents made sure the program was funded completely to get it off the ground. They petitioned to get into NKYFL so as to start a feeder program but that was voted down by the NKYFL board.

Since they let go the coaching staff that was coaching the first few seasons....things have completely fallen apart. However.......they started out much better than the Brossart program has! The administration in the past seven years has not supported football in this county and things will not improve until they do.
