If he got better at wrestling and BJJ he would be a monster. He already is on the feet.

I haven't heard much about the Alves-GSP fight. What does anybody think??? I believe this should be a good one. Alves isn't going to be pushed around since the last time he fought he came into the cage on fight night pushing 200 lbs. GSP may be more technical but he won't have the strength advantage that he has had in the past.

I agree that any of those 3 middleweights that have been discussed would be good fights with Sliva.

 

As far as GSP-Alves, I think Alves will push GSP, but GSP wins in the end. GSP is an incredible athlete and is the most well rounded fighter in the UFC. Alves, however, is a beast and all it takes in MMA is one punch or one mistake on the ground. It will be a good fight.

 

I am also looking forward to Hughes-Serra. Those guys really hate each other. I hope this one goes to the third round, so we can see them pound on each other.

Alves is the only guy in sight at 170 who isn't a complete mismatch vs. GSP. I think he has a decent shot, but GSP is still the favorite.

I hope Vitor comes to UFC. He's an exciting fighter with tremendous talent. But, talent has never really been the question with Vitor. His mental game has always been the question.

 

Put him in the cage or ring against a mid-level guy or worse, and he'll look like the baddest man on the planet. Step up the competition and you are left wondering if it's even the same fighter in the cage.

 

His noteworthy wins include an overrated Tank Abbott, a young Wanderlei Silva in 1998, Heath Herring, and Randy Couture (due to a cut). I don't think it's a stretch to think he'd have lost to Couture otherwise, considering he did lose to him in two other fights.

 

And, his most recent win over Matt Lindland was impressive.

 

Typically, when the competition steps up, Vitor has lost...Couture (x2), Kazushi Sakuraba, Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Alistair Overeem (x2) and Dan Henderson. A lot of high level guys on that list and the only one Vitor has defeated was Couture via a cut.

 

So, I'm hoping for a new and improved Vitor this time around...not the old Vitor. The fact that he's on a 4-fight win streak against decent competition, with an impressive win over Matt Lindland makes me wonder if the guy is finally ready to put it all together. If he does, then he's a threat in any weight class, because few fighters can match his skill set.

 

But, forgive me if I need some convincing. If the old Vitor returns to UFC, he'll beat the lesser foes in highlight reel fashion and then look completely overwhelmed when he steps up to fight the big boys. But, if there's really something to his recent run and an impressive win over one of the world's top middleweights, then things could get really interesting at 185 or 205, because he's capable at either weight, IMO.

They say he's been unstoppable since moving down to middleweight. But of course, there's not really a lot of competition in middleweight right now.

Actually, that's probably a bad example, cause, I don't care what the heck them judges said, Rocky won the first fight.
