May 3, 200917 yr Author Glad to hear the good news so far, BF. You just keep on doing what your doing, and the Good Lord will take care of the rest. Prayers continue to go up for you.Thank you so much! Everyone is hanging in there with me, and I really appreciate it. I feel sort of guilty, because I'm in a bit of limbo right now. My pulmonologist just saw the light (Thank you, Sue) and he wants to see me. But I tried for two days to get through to make an appointment. Keep getting brushed off by the appointment Nazi. I'd like to see him before the sleep study that my ear, nose and throat doc wants to do. So, if I can get into the lung guy, I'll schedule the test. At least, that's what I keep giving myself as the reason I haven't scheduled it. But I suspect it might be something else. :sssh:
May 4, 200917 yr Glad things went well, and keep calling , make it sound really awful and you are in need of an appointment , maybe tell them the doc says to get you in any time you call. Good luck ! ! !
May 4, 200917 yr Author Glad things went well, and keep calling , make it sound really awful and you are in need of an appointment , maybe tell them the doc says to get you in any time you call. Good luck ! ! !I finally got past the gatekeeper! I talked directly to his nurse and she put me down for 1 P.M. on Friday. Suppose I'll schedule the sleep study for next week. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this may all be over by the end of the month. If not, then hopefully by my birthday at the end of the month. It this all works out, it will be the most awesome birthday ever! :dancingpa

May 8, 200917 yr Author Here's the latest news on my quest for tracheal freedom: Just got back from the lung doctor. He said I could choose whichever sleep study place can get me in faster. He's also been consulting with my ear, nose & throat doctor, and will be continuing to do so through this process. He scheduled my next appointment for June 15. He figures the sleep study will be done by then. If I do well on the sleep study, he'll talk to the other doctor, and they may remove the trach on the 15th. Or they may decide to play it safe and put in what they call a "button." This would be nothing more than a plug, which is flush with the neckline and serves to keep the hole open. Essentially, he said, it was like keeping one foot on second base until we're absolutley sure I can make it on my own. If I do have a problem in the sleep study, they'll discuss the need for surgery to my throat -- tonsils, uvula, and so forth. Then, I guess, another test would be done, and we'd go from there. I'm also having trouble with my cough and voice strength. So they're going to discuss whether I need speech therapy to strengthen my vocal cords. That's pretty much where we stand for now. But if I can get the sleep study done right away, I might just see if I can coax the other doctor (E.N.T.) into seeing me before June 15...sort of accelerate the process. :coolshades: Hey, just because I have to be a patient doesn't mean I have to have patience. Thanks for your prayers and continued support! :thumb:
May 12, 200917 yr Author I finally have a sleep study appointment. Well, I have an appointment this coming Monday for the initial consultation; however, the nurse (who I think, understood my eagerness) said she is going to try to work me into the schedule as soon as it's opened for new appointments. It could happen as soon as that same night, or as late as June 9. Hope they can work me in though; I want this to be over so bad! :ohbrother:
May 18, 200917 yr Author Just got back from my appointment. They had some cancellations and they're going to to work me infor the sleep study tonight! I have to report back over there at 8:00 P.M. But I'm so pumped up on adrenaline right now, I'll probably never sleep. :taz::banana::clap::jump: I go back Thursday at 2:15 for the results.
