Note to all: From what I witnessed yesterday, Harlan County will be a very strong team, physically.

Even the middle schoolers had a great showing.

 

I think that Tucker Lewis is a middle schooler. Maybe Mama Bear could fill us in on the younger guys with HCMS?

 

I think that HCHS will end up being something very special and very scary, JMO.

Tucker Lewis is an 8th grader and will be at Harlan County High School next year. His little brother, Hunter, was in the 135 weight class. Coach Larkey has been kind enough to let some of the middle school kids come in and work out in the weight room when the high school kids are out there. He had brought a bus load of kids this year and worked in a few middle schoolers to place in some of the smaller weight classes. Perhaps some of the middle school coaches in the county may want to bring some more boys out to this event to compete in the future. The sheer amount of kids who want to be a part of the Black Bear Football future are very promising. It's very exciting! :dancingpa

^However, the 125lb class killed Harlan County, I heard. No school had anyone in that weight class except Whitley County, therfore, they got 17 points just for those two kids in that one class because no other school had anyone.

And Miller is a running back / linebacker. Josh is a VERY strong kid. Good to see him do well. The last North Laurel player I remember winning the overall weight lifted was Lance Woods and he was a 300 lb lineman! Harlan had 3 of the top 5 lifters, ... very impressive! Tom Larkey's kids really have hit the weight room hard.

Someone told me that Bell Co only took 13 players. Could someone tell if that is true and if so that was a great showing for 3rd place.

One thing I know from going to these things in the past and watching them is that it is not quantity of what you bring. If all 13 had placed in the top two or three, they'd have won the meet going away. Muhlenberg County won 3 or four classes last year and only had 6 lifters. All 13 had an equal chance. You don't just get handed 1st or 2nd because you bring a lot of kids.

Having said the above, Bell County did have some impressive kids. Lawson and Marcum both had excellent showings. There were a couple of others. I am sure they had some kids that were in baseball and track that could have done well as did some other schools.

Sounds as though he is making a legit claim in his early years! I bet he is also a very smart young man if I were guessing!
