WOW that has to be a parents dream to see your child reach their dreams! You and your wife deserve a pat on the back. You all must be doing something right. Congrats to him for setting goals and having drive!

I don't have any magic bullet or sure-fire prescription for a child's success. Mcmama and I have been blessed with two wonderful, bright, compassionate, good-looking (well, something had to come from me) children.

 

In the case of our son, it was obvious at a very early age that he had an extraordinary aptitude for reading. We tried to nurture it as best we could. Weekly trips to the library from the time he knew what a book was. Read, read, read. As a matter of fact, as a child I had a little bronze statue of a boy sitting down reading a book, with the inscription "The child who reads is the child who leads", and we always tried to reinforce that axiom. We also tried to be present at every event in which he participated (and we do the same for our daughter), whether it was t-ball or academic competitions. Your child sees you there supporting what he or she does, it means a lot to them - whether they tell you "it doesn't matter" or not. It does.

 

But the bottom line is that he did the work. He had a goal, and he has stuck to it for his entire adolescent and young adult life. Sure - mom and dad, sister and grandparents have all helped and been supportive. But he did all the heavy lifting, and ultimately I give him all the credit.

Congrats Papa to your son and your entire family. What an honor and a great job by your son to reach his goal.

Congrats! You should be very proud! Though I know on this board you never do this, you and the Mrs. should pat yourselves on the back also! You clearly did an incredible job! Maybe even find yourself a nice Cuban cigar, or take the Mrs. to the Bahamas and get one there! I've never met your family and I'm beaming with pride.
