That teams was loaded.You can make a pretty good argument that the 1994 strike killed the Expos as a franchise. If that team goes on to the World Series and maybe even wins it, baseball in Montreal may have taken quite a different turn.

With management like this, it's no wonder they're terrible. If Dukes and his baseball contract allow that to happen it's bull and completely ruins anything he was trying to do giving back to the organization. I don't think he should have been fined, but he can't let them pay it!

If they have a policy for tardiness, then he is obligated to follow policy. Period. I think a fine would have been appropriate and then have that fine donated to another worthwhile cause. I dont agree with the benching. If you are on your way to work and see someone with a flat tire and stop to help, is that a big enough excuse to earn you a free pass from the boss? Even if it was the right thing to do? For a lot of us, the answer is no.

April 21, 200917 yr My problem with the Dukes situation is that the Nationals should want their players involved in the community. Sure, there are appropriate times & places to give back, but it didn't have a great impact on the Nats. I see the justification for the fine; however, it is absurd that the real loser is the Little League organization.

April 21, 200917 yr IMO, the Nationals blew it in this situation. I'd agree that they did not handle it properly; however, my problem is not with the tardiness policy. I'd like to see the Nationals reimburse the Little League organization, or make a similar contribution.
