Funny, but three of the 14 post on this thread were when will theoldguy make his comments about the game. Did anybody notice that I also didn't post about the St. Henry game either yesterday, so it wasn't just because CovCath lost that I didn't post. :confused:

 

Do any of you realize that maybe just maybe after being at the ball park all day Saturday (from around 9am to 5pm) that I had things that I had to do too?

 

You did notice that I didn't say when I started this thread more later. My knees were aching, and I truly had things that I had to do at home, yes sometimes I have to do things for my family like you have to do for yours. :sssh:

CovCath many St. Henry not so many

 

Shumate pitched a very nice game going three complete innings, giving up 1 hit while striking out three and picking up his first CovCath victory. Great game young man. Keep up the good work and believe in yourself, you indeed do belong.

 

Nice to see a lot people at the game that I know and really like from St. Henry. That's it folk's. Have far too much respect for the St. Henry coaches, players, and their fans to say any more.

Folks, if and I mean if you like to read the stuff you need to on occasion post stuff and I am not just talking good game, or way to go. You can't just let a few carry all the load of posting so you can read about the games, if you attend, post something.

 

It takes a lot of time to post and quite honestly, it is starting to take far too much time, but I do enjoy doing it, but.....gee guy's:isurrender:

 

 

Boone County 8 CovCath 6

 

Outstanding pitching effort by Alford but when I was told he wasn't a regular pitcher for Boone, I wondered why the Boone coaches let the kid throw 100 pitches in the game. Think about this... In the Boone vs Cooper game the Cooper starting pitcher was in complete control of Boone but the Cooper Coach pulled his pitcher after around 78 pitches and he was a regular pitcher for the team. Now I don't know Alford and again he pitched an outstanding game, but why let a kid throw 100 pitches in a game if he isn't a pitcher. Now I was told he has a strong arm, but???

 

Lokesak and Dunnaway are two outstanding hitters for Boone. Lokesak went 3/3 with a walk and Dunnaway went 2/4 with a single and a double.

 

Unlike what the Boone poster said, it was the number nine batter Hummerick that had the two very nice 1-3 Sac's one each in the 3rd and 5th innings.

 

Cotton didn't hit the ball out of the infield yesterday, so I am not sure where the Boone County poster information came from about hitting the ball to the deepest park of the CovCath outfield came from. 1st 4 unassisted, 2nd 1-2 fc Dunnaway throw out at the plate for the second out of the inning, 4th 6-3 ground out, and in the 6th 3-1 ground out. BTW I know who Cotton is, so I didn't get him confused with another player.

 

Maile HR (#2 370) indeed it would have if you had the equipment like they do at Great American could have gone easily 415 maybe a tad farther and it was hit with a wooden bat.

 

To give you an example of his power, Isler hit two rockets to around the same spot but both were just long outs. Dunnaway did the same thing but much closer to the RF foul line and while his turned into a double it didn't make it over the fence. Both Isler and Dunnaway shots with allumiun bats would have been HR's but with the wooden ones, just long out or a double. BTW I love the sound of a ball hitting a wooden bat.

 

Nutini had a rought outing, but I put some of that to only pitching 2 innings (22) pitches since the 8th of April. You just can't expect a pitcher to be sharp if he doesn't get his innings in or pitches thrown (in games), and I am not at all taking anything away from the outstanding Boone County hitters, just stating MO.

 

The good: Believe it or not the loss. If you thought CovCath was going to win every game this season, then you don't either watch baseball very much or don't follow the ninth region. They got beat and now they need to regroup and work even harder! Sometimes in losing, you win.

 

The bad: The CovCath outfielders need to get a better jump on the batted balls hit into the outfield. If I were Krumps I would be hitting fly balls all day long to them in practice.

 

The ugly: One Cooper parent complained about the sun being so hot yesterday, while sitting in the stands. Gee....:idunno:

 

No stats today, as my knees are hurtig me and I need to get up and walk around some. Maybe later...

I stand corrected by TOG. Cottons long ball as in the Cooper game. And it was Hummerick #9 who laid the bunts down. No disrespect to the Covcath faithful was intended. I don't have a score book nor do I keep one but stand corected as I had my games mixed up. Bottom line is this was avery good game by both teams. Boone just came out on top on this one. I usually enjoy TOGS comments and admire his enthusiasm for the Colonels. Why not? they are a great team and don't have tp prove anything. As for the Boone faithful not commenting when they loose? I am only one person and try to say a little something because I too am proud when we win. As for someone stating you did not comment like you used to? I thought they were just joking with you. But to your credit, you did make the very first post stating the loss. Please continue your comments as I find them very interesting and acurate.:isurrender:

It indeed was a very good game by both teams yesterday and did or did not the teams play today despite the rain?

 

Good luck to Boone, Cooper and St. Henry the rest of the way.

 

BTW I like the RC caps the Cooper fans were wearing. At first I was confused because of the "R" but then I remembered about the school being named after the former Ryle Principal.

CovCath is now 13-1 and will play Campbell County @ Campbell at 5pm weather permitting Monday April 19.

The 2 double plays are what killed CovCath in this one. Maybe a hit here or a hit there, CCH comes out on top. Plenty of opportunities that went to waste.

Bottom line from this game: Although CovCath rightfully wears the favorite label in the 9th, Boone is also a good team to be reckoned with. It will not be a cakewalk for CovCath to the title. Boone has some outstanding athletes, particularly Cotton and Lokesak. I would wager to say they are the top two baseball pure athletes in NKY this year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they are very athletic young men and complete baseball players that will lead the Rebels this year. Both can run (extremely fast - D1 fast- I might add), throw, hit and hit with power. Boone also has a lot of good hitters besides these two and will be a tough out, so to speak, this year. If their pitching surprises and continues to be pretty good, they could steal the title from CovCath just like Ryle did a couple of years back. Congrats to Boone on the win.

I've gotta tell you, I agree with a lot of what you say, but the top two or three most pure baseball athletes in NKY are all one team.

 

Cotton is a great athlete, and Lokesake can hit a ball really well. And they are both a blast to watch, but they really aren't ahead of the three at CovCath.

No way that I could ever consider Darner and Isler in the class of pure athlete compared to Lokesak and Cotton. Maile is a D-1 player OBVIOUSLY but his foot speed is average so that knocks him down in the pure athlete category in my mind. Isler's only ticket to D-1 is pitching - he lacks the speed to play anywhere else at the D-1 level. I'll stick with my boys Lokesak and Cotton although I have not seen Hunter Jones play. We may be talking semantics with pure athlete and pure baseball athlete, so my bad if I have caused any confusion from that angle. It's good to keep TOG's blood-pressure up anyway.

I would love to see him run sprints in track, he can flatout run.

Yes he did against HHS on the first pitch thrown to him, over the 380 sign in a 15 to nothing victory at CovCath. Maile hit his in the morning game against Lloyd over the #365 mark on a 1-1 count and CovCath won that game by a score of 9-0. Maile had only that one AB as Lloyd walked him three straight times after that and he went 3/4 against HHS. Isler went 1-2 against HHS and went 0/1 agaist Lloyd as they walked him two times in that game. I keep my old score books handy...:sssh:

That means Boone in two days and a total of 10 innings vs Nutini and Etscheid had 27 hits, that is flat out ridiculous. Everyone can disagree all they want but this is the top hitting team in NKY. They have hit well all season and recently have even picked up the pace against two very good pitchers.
