As you told another poster, my job is not to make you comfortable. For the record, I did agree with your 2nd point.

 

I could not support using deadly force against someone that is not a physical threat. I think that it is barbaric.

I think you have an over-idealistic view of humanity if you find such acts to be "barbaric." If that is indeed the case than the human race is still nothing but barbarians and as such we might as well give up the attempt to move beyond it. After all if we haven't gotten to the point where violence is never an option after a few thousand years we never will.

 

Again I bear them no ill will, but for the sake of gaining control of the border I know of no other solution. I don't think a cross border sit-in during which both Americans and Mexians sing protest songs in both English and Spanish is an option either.

 

What do YOU suggest we do to stem the tide of illegals? Should we just let all of them in, hand them a green card and say "Welcome to America?"

 

I want people to come here legally, I have never said otherwise. I want it to be easier for them to come here legally, I have never said otherwise there either. However there needs to be something in place that encourages it as opposed to just running over the border. If you know you have to go through some red tape or just run the border, which is a more viable option?

 

If you know you have to go through some red tape OR run through a minefield it gives you pause and the thought that maybe I can fill out some forms.

 

Do you also have problems with the U.S. military having installations where you can be shot on sight with no questions asked for crossing a certain perimeter? This of course being warned of by signs clearly posted and marked.

I may be overly idealistic for believing that using minefields against unarmed people is wrong. If so, so be it.

 

Again, I agreed with your second point in the post that I quoted. I also believe that if those that are here illegally cannot find work, many of them would return home and spread the word. We need very stiff penalties for those that hire illegal workers and those penalties need to be enforced. Those that hire them are breaking the law just as much as the illegal worker, but we aren't suggesting physical violence against them.

 

FWIW, I was a big fan of Pres. Bush's "guest worker" idea. This allowed to obtain work legally in our county and a type of tax. If the process could also be part of a plan for eventually citizenship, provided certain criteria are met, then I would be in favor of that.

It would not be that difficult to get all illegals out of the country.

 

The way to do it is to severely punish the company's or people who hire them.

Example at least $100,000 fine for each day the company hires or pays an illegal.

 

Just make the risk far far exceed the reward of cheap labor.

 

Then when they cannot find work they will return home.
