Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 A study has been released that details graduation rates of the NCAA Tournament teams. Western Kentucky is one of 7 teams with a 100% graduation rate. U of L is a little less than stellar at 42%. UCONN is 33% North Carolina is 86% The five lowest rates were at Cal State Northridge (8 percent), Maryland (10 percent), Portland State (17 percent), Arizona (20 percent) and Clemson (29 percent). http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney09/news/story?id=3987923 What in the world is going on at CS-Northridge?:ohbrother:
3wishes Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Is this graduation rates from the team only or from the University all together?
Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Is this graduation rates from the team only or from the University all together? Team only is the way I understood it.
Getslow Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I don't feel like looking this up myself, so does anyone have a link to how these graduation rates are compiled? Does it count transfers as non-graduations? I'd just like to see how the numbers are put together.

Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 I guess nothing. They literally only play basketball at Northridge
coldweatherfan Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 All sports or just B-ball. Would like to see what the graduation rate is for all incoming freshmen at each of these schools.
Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 All sports or just B-ball. Would like to see what the graduation rate is for all incoming freshmen at each of these schools. I think it is just for basketball team only.
Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Here is the actual study: http://web.bus.ucf.edu/documents/sport/2009_division_i_mens_basketball_tournament_teams_study.pdf
Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 "Seven of these teams will be subject to contemporaneous penalties by the NCAA, including Cal State Northridge, Southern California, Cleveland State, Morehead State, Portland State, Purdue and Tennessee."
Wireman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 After looking at the numbers, I can't figure out what's going on at Northridge. Only 56% of their overall student-athletes graduate...0% of African-American basketball players...50% of White basketball players...8% total basketball players
LCPATS Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 This usually includes transfers and early departures....
LCPATS Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 from the link: The graduation rates were based on whether freshmen who entered school between the 1998-99 and 2001-02 school years earned diplomas within six years. Also noticed that FSU is 100%..... ugh... ok. It's easy when you got all the answers.
Clyde Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I don't feel like looking this up myself, so does anyone have a link to how these graduation rates are compiled? Does it count transfers as non-graduations? I'd just like to see how the numbers are put together. That was going to be my question as well.
LCPATS Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 "Seven of these teams will be subject to contemporaneous penalties by the NCAA, including Cal State Northridge, Southern California, Cleveland State, Morehead State, Portland State, Purdue and Tennessee." Why no Jeer for UT and MSU....
