What does Warren Central need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Warren Central already took the biggest step they needed to take, which was getting a solid replacement for the departing Coach Cox in Mike Rogers. I think the next big step will be finding or developing a QB. If it ends up being Troy Halcomb, so be it, but IMO he is not a fit at QB.

The QB situation will be interesting. Should be plenty of speed to make the running game go. Hopefully, the QB position will come around. The district games are much later in the season this year. I believe we play BG week 9 as opposed to week 5 the past two years.

How will the new high school affect Central (also Greenwood). I know the administration and board are working on the boundaries but have not heard anything about how they will change the make up of the teams?

Has a decision been made when they will start construction on the new high school?

Construction is well under way and has been for over a year. The new HS and MS will open in the fall of 2010. I believe the name of the school will be South Warren and will have around 900 students the first year with the vast majority coming from Greenwood HS and it's feeder schools.

It would give them the greatest benefit to take it entirely from Greenwood, which I'm told has a student population between 1700-1800 students currently in a school meant for 1250. Realistically, I don't know how they'd justify sending students from some of the outlying areas in Warren Central's district to WC when they're going to be much closer to South Warren, especially the Rockfield area. Ultimately, I'd look for about 700-800 students coming from Greenwood's area and 100-150 from Central. Unless they just ignore the proximity, in which case it will all come from Greenwood.

The interesting question is how many South Warren students come from Warren Central. If the number is high enough, Warren Central could easily be a 4A school in the next classification cycle.

Greenwood will be 4A in 2010. Warren Central will remain in 5A until the completion of the 2012 season. After that, it's debatable, but in 2010, Greenwood will drop and join District 1 in 4A (which makes no geographical sense), and Central will remain in 5A until 2012 at the earliest.

Actually, I think 2010 is the year that the KHSAA does the comprehensive re-classification. It wouldn't shock me if Warren Central is in 4A by 2011, depending on where the school district draws the lines.

Central would have to shed about 50-80 boys from their enrollment to drop classes. So it's not out of the question, but you would figure they'd need to lose 130-200 total enrollment for that to happen. Again, it all depends on whether the county goes further to address the need to alleviate Greenwood totally, in which case they may not touch Central at all, or try to accomplish that without essentially sending some students twice as far, which means some will come from Central.

I think the Rich Pond population that goes to WC will end up at South Warren HS no matter what because that is where the new HS is located. DragonFire is right in saying that the VAST MAJORITY of the new school will be taken from GW's current student population. He is also right in saying that the most interesting decisions will involve the Rockfield area. I have heard everything from they will take all of Rockfield, or maybe 1/2 of Rockfield, or just a little bit, or none at all. If the new HS took ALL of Rockfield it would certainly drop WC to Class 4A. However, it would also take a good chunk of the football team with it. Since the split to form GW in 1990 the Rockfield and Rich Pond areas are where WC has gotten most of their OL, DL, LB, TE types and maybe even the majority of the roster numbers. I would hope that all of Rockfield stays at WC just from a competitiveness standpoint even though it would keep us in 5A. In any scenario, I think the Rich Pond area goes to the new HS, but that group does not have enough in terms of numbers to significantly give a negative impact to the WC roster.
