The Bengals played a lot of games against inept offenses. I don't see this team anywhere near being a contender. You also seem to forget that we had the worst offense in the NFL last year, and was 3 and out a lot. I bet the defense was on the field more than any other defenses in the NFL last year, and they still finished 12th in the NFL. That is pretty darn good. If they had any offense to go with it, that would have been a top ten defense last year. I mean I just don't think you should take that away from the Bengals. Because the two great defenses in our division play against the same bad offenses in our division, and you dont take that away from them. We all played basically the same teams, and we had the worst offense. So the defense is one thing they should get credit for, and not have that taken away from them last year.
March 3, 200917 yr The good news is we still play those offenses again this year. Also, instead of playing the Cowboys, Giants & Eagles, we play the Bears, Packers & Vikings... One reason that I love the NFL is the parity. I anticipate the Bengals to have a much easier schedule this year than last. Not one of whom I would expect the Bengals to beat next year. Possibly the Bears, but I still wouldn't bet on it. And Peterson is liable to run for 250 yards on the Bengals.

Look at the defense...one good DT could make a world of difference. They have two solid young corners and some young safeties that show some real potential. Keith Rivers looks like the real deal at LB. Geathers and Odom have some pass-rushing ability. If they could add one impact player in the middle at DT, get some bulk to complement and add depth to the line and add a little at LB, they have the pieces in place for a good defense. Strangely enough, they're in far worse shape offensively. They have to get the line fixed and letting Andrews go isn't going to help, IMO. Its possible they could have a decent offense if they could get the line improved. Re-sign Benson, keep Utecht healthy, keep Chad happy, keep Henry in uniform and hope some of the young WR's drafted last year are ready. Too many "ifs" on that side of the ball. I think they have to take the best available OT or DT with their first pick. Most likely, the OT is going to be the best available player. They need to make that pick and once again hope they can find some help for the middle of the defense later in the draft. But, the Bengals have some pieces to work with and build around if they just had the front office to get it done. That's the problem, and unfortunately, its not going to change any time soon.

March 3, 200917 yr What's your point? Easier schedule means what? Well, theoretically it'd mean more wins. The Bengals had a brutal schedule last year. Combine that with injuries to key positions and some poor play, and you get 4-11-1. I'm not expecting much from this Bengals team, but I think it's possible that they contend for a playoff spot. There is so much parity in the NFL, and the Bengals have a very favorable schedule next year (based off of this past year's performances.)

Like I said, I don't expect too much, but you could not have asked for a better schedule...

When Sims got his chance the run defense got a lot better and I think signing Crocker and bringing him back was big.
March 3, 200917 yr Im not to down on them for the upcoming season. Last year they had one of the toughest if not the toughest schedule in the league and they were the most injured team in the league. With that schedule and all the injuries they had I dont care what organization you are your going to look pretty bad. Really need the hit both lines hard in the draft and sign or resign a RB. I dont think they will be as bad as 90% of BGP thinks they will be.

At first I was all for the Bengals taking one of those tackles with their pick. However I am just not so sure about any of those tackles now. All of them have some big flaws that we are starting to hear about. I know I really liked what Collins did at LT to end the year, and I think Whitworth would be a great fit at RT if we moved him there which has been talked about. That would mean we still would need to fill the LG and C positions sometime in the draft or free agency. But I just think we could be pretty good at the tackle position without drafting one. I would like to see them get a DT or one of those top linebackers. Yeah our defense did really good last year, but Dhani Jones is getting older. If we got a linebacker we could have a great core at linebacker for years. It would be nice to get one who can rush the QB, cause pass rush still was not that good.
