Beechwood Schedule

Featured Replies

Being part of the D 3 has its positives and negatives. I feel it would be better for these schools to play each other 1 time a year mandatory, and then if they want to schedule each other again, the second game would not count in the conference. Silver Grove ran into the same problem a few years back with the Pelle Boys and Wiseman. It's tough to schedule when you are locked into 14 conference games, 3 mandatory district seeding games, the All A and a particular Christmas tourney. It really only leaves the coach 3 or 4 games to schedule on their own. For the past 7 or 8 years the D 3 champ has usually won 13 or 14 games and can compete among the mid to upper echelon teams. When it comes to the end of the year, it makes it tough on these D 3 champs, because they haven't been able to schedule how they would like. However, talent at the D 3 level greatly fluctuates year to year and that is why they all agree to still play each other twice.

I agree with this statement. Why are the DIII teams required to play each other twice while the DII & DI teams are only required to play each other once? Nothing says that they couldn't continue with the current schedule if they chose to do so. Natural rivals like Bellevue and Dayton should play a home and home series each year as well as others. But that would free up 4-5 games to allow a strong DIII team to bolster their schedule on an as needed basis.

NKYBOY how far back and how many threads did you have to research to find 3 posts by 2 members to "prove" your point?

No farther than this season. I probably looked at 5 threads and saw just these 3 comments. You wanted proof so I gave it to ya.

Flip/Flop, I'm not sure if you understand where Im coming with this. My point of the thread was to figure out why Beechwood was playing such an easy schedule when they have such a good team. This team this year maybe the best I've seen at Beechwood and I thought they would be very good after seeing them last year. So know they had a very good squad, I had no clue why they were playing these teams 3times. That isn't the case in any other division.

And from what I've heard Beechwood has a great program coming up in the middle school leagues. Why don't they try and get out of D-3 and compete with more larger teams?

Reality is most DIII schools have seen waves of talent come through and other years they will struggle. It is tough to forecast when you are going to have a good year. Beechwood's non-conference schedule was very strong this year with playing in the Ashland Invitational, Conner, Ryle, Highlands, Dixie Heights,etc. They played the schedule they had to and added strong competiton in the spots that they could.

Im not saying they are complaining, but I've seen comments that have given me the impression that fans think the team deserves more respect in this area over the past couple years. Which probaby is true from the wins they are getting over the bigger schools, but I was just questioning the schedule. I didn't realize D3 had to play each other twice. D2 and D1, that isn't the case. But just to prove my point, here are some quotes that show why my impression was that Beechwood wanted more respect.

If im not mistaken those comments were from the very beginning of the season when everybody but Eta Roh was hating on them. Sorry, but you have been proven wrong in this thread.

I don't think Beechwood has control over what level they play in. I think it is based on school enrollment. I know in football they can't move. Beechwood is about in the middle of the pack in Class A in enrollment so it isn't like they are close enough to even make an argument to move up. The freshman football team played all the big schools because the small schools stopped playing them. To their credit the freshman football team won the championship beating out the likes of Highlands, Boone Co and Ryle.

As to the D III schools playing each other twice, my guess is that is because most of the D III schools would have a tough time competing game in and game out against the larger schools.

I think they can move up provided they do in boys/girls sports and go through the proper procedures. I think Highland FB plays what... 4A or 5A schedule with 2A enrollment? Help me out Bird fans.

NKAC has nothing to do with KHSAA and classification...

Not sure of the process, but I believe all they have to do is apply to the NKAC to move up to D-2 if that's what they want? They could still schedule any D-3 schools they chose, and only be required to play the other D-2's (7 games I think) once. Size wise they are about the same as Brossart, who's had some success since moving up to D-2 and regularly scheduling better competition--"To be the best you gotta' play the best"!! It's worked for BW in football, now might be the time to step up in hoops??

The girls program is the issue here. They are just not ready to compete.

Don't count out the Beechwood parents getting involved in this though. This AD is a lot more proactive about all sports than the former one was.

Football is no longer the only sport at Beechwood. The success they have had on the baseball field has only proved that success is possible in other sports.

I would hate to think Beechwood could lose a good coach, Rick Schumate, by deciding to not take the next step to improve there Basketball program by staying in DIII in its present set-up.

With the successes they've had in football and baseball, they need to move up and start playing at a higher level than the D-3 schedule.

I thought that is what I said!:confused::ylsuper:

If the boys team moves up, so does the girls. How many wins does Beechwood's girls program have this year? There is your answer. Until both squads can prove to dominate or atleast compete on a regular basis, I don't see a change in Division. Now, the question to why Beechwood doesn't move up in football may be a little more legit!:idunno:

I may be wrong here, but I believe in order for the football team to move up, the basketball team would have to do the same...can someone help me out here? Wouldn't the basketball team have to be in div. II if the football team moved up a class? Even if that is not the case, the boys basketball team won't be able to move up because the girls team will not allow it.

NKAC divisions have nothing to do with football and the KSHAA classes??

Agreeing with you?? :confused::D:isurrender:

I believe Highlands is 3A in enrollment and they were allowed to go to 5A because there were no other 3A or 4A teams to fill a district within a reasonable travel distance.
