gametime Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 His stock is going off the charts at the combine. Best numbers for a D Lineman in the vert, broad, 20 yd shuttle and 3 cone drill and 2nd fastest 40 time. His shuttle would have been #4 RB and #6 at WR. His 3-cone drill would be #5 RB. Broad jump would be #1 RB and #2 WR. Vertical would be #2 RB and #3 WR. He's going to be hard for some of the big name teams to pass up late in Rd 1. He's such a great guy, and I'm very happy for him...
gametime Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Here's an interview with him from NFLN today... http://www.nfl.com/combine/videos/nfltotalaccess#page:1/video:09000d5d80ee482c

cch5432 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Does he project as DE or LB at the next level?
ColonelCrazy Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Does he project as DE or LB at the next level? Interesting question. I had always thought of him as a DE, and I'd imagine that's where his future is; however, with #'s like that, you'd think he'd be capable at the LB spot.
gametime Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 I think his position depends on who drafts him. 4-3 team he will likely be a DE. 3-4 team it will be OLB...
UKMustangFan Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 They were talking on 1530 last week about how he could potentially be a backup TE for teams as well, thus saving a roster spot.
gametime Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 They were talking on 1530 last week about how he could potentially be a backup TE for teams as well, thus saving a roster spot. And he's also exceptional on ST play too. Flat out football player...
halfback20 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 What were his numbers like in college? I'm all for athletes who perform at the combine, but some of them are nothing more than work out warriors.
NEERFAN Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I really like Barwin, but at 253 he's a bit smallish to play the DE in a 4-3. He will give one team a bit of roster flexibility.

I'm all for athletes who perform at the combine, but some of them are nothing more than work out warriors. Led the BE in sacks in his first year playing D, and put up solid numbers and was considered an NFL guy at TE before the switch. Also blocked 3 punts this year. He more than backed this up on the field...

His frame could easily hold 265-270. He could very well be a Freeney type player in a Tampa 2 system in a year or so...
dolamite Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Glad to hear hes had a good combine, from everything I have heard and read he is a great guy. To be honest I didn't see that many Cincinatti games this year, so somebody help me out with some opinions. Can Barwin be a successful player in the NFL and maybe come in and play right away or is he a Vernon Gholston who was just an absolute beast all around, but didn't break out and barley touched the field last season?
