February 22, 200917 yr Tyson Williams for McCreary County is one. Anyone know the score as of right now in the championship?? Just a note (and a little bit of sour grapes, lol), IMO you should NOT be allowed to bring in a kid to play in the state tournament who has not been playing with your team all year. It's just not fair to the kids on that team, nor to the teams they play against. But what is fair anymore? I forgot about Tyson. And, I know Braxton McFarland (LTMS) played up some up this year, but joined LTMS when their season started -- since Lexington schools don't begin until January. I heard Tyson also moved back to 8th a few weeks ago. Hawkins played Thursday and Friday night with the JV and varsity.
February 22, 200917 yr Twenhofel just beat Clinton Co 68 to 50. Wow that is a lot of points for a 24 minute game. Did anyone play defense? Twenhofel now has to play Mayfield and many on here think they are a contender to get far. Kind of interesting. I spoke with a good friend (a really good coach) who said they watched Twenhofel twice. They beat a really good team in Clinton County and received a lot of attention because they looked to be one of the better teams. The coach started the game against Mayfield with an entirely different 5. Said they just looked un-enthused and not very fast and they played most of the game. He did say some of the other kids played in spurts (that mostly played against Clinton Co) but he never really put them out there any length of time against Mayfield. I find that interesting as he said that was one of the strangest coached teams in the tourney. When you have a group of kids playing well keep it going!!! Anyway, Twenhofel apparently made some strong impressions. Kudos to that team. Just hope there aren't some politics going on within the team that hurt them. He also said Madison apparently looked the most impressive. They have one kid that is def. head and above anyone else in the tourney.
February 22, 200917 yr Tyson Williams played in 12 of the 20 games that McCreary played this year. If a kid is in middle school he should be able to compete in this type of atmosphere whether he plays jv or varsity during the season. It can be a touchy subject when you do this but if the coach and school are ok with it then so be it.

If the kid goes to school there, they should be able to play with that school.

Wonder what their record was without him????????????????????? Madison won their side of the Bluegrass Conference during the regular season, then lost in the semifinals to Elkhorn. So, while Hawkins is obvisouly a special player, they are a good team even without him. And, actually, they almost didn't get out of Saturday even with him. They were tied with Harrison at 44 with about 30 seconds left in the second round, and Harrison had the ball, trying to hold for the last shot. But, Harrison turned it over and Madison ended up prevailing.
February 22, 200917 yr I just heard South Laurel's semifinal victory over Hazard went 4 OT's. Probably didn't help their legs to do that and play about 30 minutes later. Plus, their game with Scott County in the quarters was a tight one as well. South Laurel made a 3 with about 45 seconds left to go up 1. Scott County's Quin Richardson had a 17-footer at the buzzer that was on target, but was just short (hit the inside of the front rim, so it was probably 2-3 inches short). That would have won it for SC. Of course, Madison blew a 17-point 4th quarter lead against Lincoln in the quarters and had to go OT to pull it out.

February 23, 200917 yr The South/Hazard game was one of the best games I have ever seen. Wow! Both teams had multiple chances to win. South had no legs in the finals. I think Hawkins was the best player I saw. I also liked the big kid from McCreary and the guard from Frankfort. I had never seen any of these 3 this season, they were very good. Sanders played extremely well and the kids from Scott County were both playing well. It was a great tournament and a great season. See you guys next year!
February 23, 200917 yr Madison, played well and Dominique, is a very, very talented player. I don't want to take anything away from their State Championship. But, hats off to the South Laurel, boys... They had a hard road to the Championship game. This team was not the most athletic team in the tournment...but played with so much heart in every game. Yes, fatigue set in and became a factor for South. Dominique, was absolutely the top player in the tournament I thought he really stuck out in his games. His ability to get to the basket was very nice. He will be one of the top Freshmen next year. He will be fun to watch in the future.... I thought Sanders had a good tournament for South, to get them to the Championship game. Sanders, played every minute of 3 games and 4 OT's Mayfield, Scott C. and Hazard. He was pressured every second of each game by every teams best defenders and doubled teamed a lot. He played hard on the defensive end and rebound well. With 2 minutes left in the second quarter of the Championship game he told his coach he needed a break. You could tell mental and physical fatigue finally set in on him. He played with so much heart in OT to get his team to the Championship game. " You cant measure Heart" Edited February 23, 200917 yr by black 10
February 23, 200917 yr Hats off to the 13th Region... The future looks bright for the 13th region with Clay, Knox and South Laurel, all making it to the Elite 8... Bell Co. and Rosspoint "Harlan Co."....Sweet 16. OK I'll stop taking my hat...:thumb:
