OK "Stimulus Package" supporters here's your chance...

Featured Replies

...tell me exactly and in detail exactly how the pork package that was just passed and will be signed into law by Obama is going to "stimulate" the economy.

I don't want party talking points, I want details. After all if you are going to support a plan that is going to throw so much more debt at us (after railing over the spending that was done by the last administration) then surely you have to have very clear ideas how this packag is going to help and are not just blindly following Obama because he says it's what we need.

A clarification before we choose to answer your questions - are you asking us to list certain parts or all parts of the 1100 page package? Meaning if we list parts that we think are workable, are we just going to be hammered with ones that we didn't mention?

With all due respect, don't you think the pork in this bill really negates any "stimulus" there might possibly be in it? This thing is so loaded down it should be an outrage to all Americans. It's going to have more ill effect IMO then any help to this economy.

The Dems should be more ashamed then any before them. They balloned this thing to over 1000 pages blindly voted on it without knowing most of what was in it. They also pushed the vote through before most of America even had the chance to understand what crap was really in it.

RTS, your dead on. There is so much garbage in this thing it has no chance of stimulating anything.

So...you're saying that this is a loaded question and I shouldn't bother with sincerely trying to answer it?

Or that anything that I think that it worthy in the package couldn't possibly help?

Only 1/8th of this spending will occur in the fiscal year. Less than $200B in the first two years. The majority of the "porkulus" bill will be spent to in years 3 and 4 just in time for the re-election cycle for BHO.

If it is such an emergency that it had be signed before even one senator or congressman could read it let alone the voting public, why is the majority of the spending $600 billion not for two years. Why the rush?

Because this thing will be seen as garbage when it hit the light of day and can be fully read.

Since I assumed "yes" was the answer to both of your questions, I wasn't going to answer.

I'm like you. There are parts I agree with, parts I disagree with, parts I'm skeptical of, but willing to see if they work.....

I doubt anyone sincerely wants to hear any of my answers, so I don't think I'll bother getting myself lambasted by the experts, and just go on living my life and waiting to see what happens.

No, I'm just saying what I think about it, but I would like to hear your opinion, both positive and negative.

Just to be clear...keep in mind that even without the pork, this "stimulus" package wouldn't do what it is supposed to- Keynesian economics simply don't work.

I sincerely want to hear your answers, I won't lambaste you. You know we disagree politically, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss this.

I'm in agreement with you, we're on the same road as was England under Blair IMO, not a wise path.

Well, you aren't the only one who posts, but I'll give a small stab. :D

I like the tax cuts first.

I like the spending that's being given to the states as grants, some specific, some not. From what I've seen for Kentucky, it's all good. Now, the onus is on Kentucky to award the contracts for the projects that those grants are used for to Kentucky companies and workers. So, while it IS Federal spending, it's in the hands of the state. I just hope that Kentucky is smart enough to use it wisely.

I don't understand the energy stuff, so I'm skeptical. But, given that I don't understand it, I'm willing to wait and see what happens.

I dislike people who receive food stamps will see an increase in their monthly aid, and that they will ALSO receive other tax credits. I personally believe it should be (at most) a one or the other deal, not both.

I like the increase in the college loan credit, and the increase in the credit for first time home buyers. I also like the increased pell grant provision.

That's some.....

Well, all of us in education can now rest easy!:jump: Reading is no longer important (since not a single member of the house / senate or their staff read this bill)!

The great part is we (educators) will not lose pay over giving up 1/2 of language arts. It will cost us a few cents more to enjoy our favorite summer beverages here in Kentucky.

Boys, we are headed down the wrong road and I say that as a teacher who doesn’t lose a thing with Obama in office!

That funny sound you hear is Kennedy, Reagan, Lincoln and Washington all SPINNING in their graves! :scared:

I'm completely confused. How does the Kentucky increase in tax on alcohol have anything to do with Obama?

Also, I don't understand the comment about not losing pay over giveing up 1/2 of language arts. :idunno:
