I was actually referring to playing offense or defense not really special teams.

I agree with the others that it's unusual for sophomores get many meaningful varsity minutes. When it's happened in the past, it's usually been when the junior and senior classes have been thin. That's not the case with this upcoming season. But who knows, if there is some stud sophomore capable of beating out the juniors and seniors, Dale will play the sophomore. It's all about putting the best players on the field.

I don't see any Soph. starting Varsity but maybe a few getting some quality minutes. What HHS needs to succeed is a great supporting cast to the upperclassmen. That is why they and any other team wins over and over. Everybody has a spot and job to do and hopefully there are not any unrealistic expectations in this group especially with this Junior and Senior group. If they work hard and all indications are they will, I see the success to continue at Highlands for years to come. I think we are at the beginning of something really special. This run will be unforgettable.

I don't always agree with Dale but he is smart about playing the people he needs to win games. He will get the younger guys playing because in a couple years they are the program. HHS does not rebuild they constantly reload. Love Dale or hate Dale he's a smart coach. Having said all that I don't see too many sophs playing.

Next year's Junior class isnt as deep as you would expect so I think once the Birds get up large on teams you will see various Sophomores logging minutes. I think Dale is smart in that he knows that this year's sophomore class is going to have to be ready to play a ton when they are Juniors.

Really? I thought there was a lot of talent in that class. Just of the top of my head: Compton is a stud running back/lber. Abner is very talented as is Seidl. Sullivan is becoming as strong as a bull and will contribute on D either at the lb spot or on the D line. Hahn and Meyers are getting stronger and quicker and will be very good O and D linemen. Gold already has proven he can play varsity at the receiver spot. Gall has looked good too at the receiver spot. Not sure what Duennes' status is, but he is very, very quick.

Coach Mueller has been very impressed this winter with next year's junior class and has told them so.

That's really good news. I know that we will have one of the better Senior classes this coming season but we will need this Junior class to get some good varsity experience to carry on into the 2010 season. Very, very important to say the least.

Comparatively speaking to this year's Junior class and next year's sophomore class they dont have the alot of depth in the sense that there weren't a lot who saw the varsity field. You mentioned 7 or 8 kids who still might not see a ton of varsity action next year because of how loaded the Senior class is going to be. Compton will compete for a lot of time and if Sullivan can keep himself on the straight edge will probably be a force on the D line. Gold will contribute as he did this past year and Gall really came on. Outside of that I dont see a lot of kids who got a ton of Varsity experience in this class. With that being said they will need to develop next year as Juniors so they can be a strong Senior class the following year. If you look at all 3 classes next year and you had to prognosticate who has the most depth of talent it would probably go SR/Soph/JR. That isnt to say next year's soph's are going to step in and play a ton, it just means Dale might want to incorporate some of them when he can so they can be seasoned Juniors the following year. I guess I am making sense here. :idunno:

I think what Im trying to say in a nutshell is that Dale will need to not be so keen on blowing teams out next year with his Seniors and should focus on getting next year's Jr's and Sophs mixed into the Varsity action. I think this goes without saying though. They do have some nice athletes in the soph class and I was impressed with them playing JV last year and with Gold stepping up in the State Final so I wish them the best and hope they can be great leaders by the time they hit their SR year.

We'll agree to disagree. In my assessment, there is a lot of talent in the to be junior class.
