Hope the word filters down quickly. I know it is a big deal for a team to get to the regional tourney. It amounts to several thousand dollars for the schools.

 

I know nobody wants to be the four seed, but just because you are the fourth seed in this year's tourney is no guarantee that you won't be in playing in Morehead (you would just have a tough road to get there).

 

I agree completely. I think the fight over not being the 4 seed sends the wrong message to the kids. It says "We're afraid to play Elliott" to me. Well, either Morgan, East or West had to play them. I would hate to go into a game as a player knowing my coach thought that we had no chance of winning it. All 3 have claims to being the 2 seed in my mind. West beat East and Morgan in the first games they played, East split with Morgan and beat West by a pretty decent margin in their last meeting, and Morgan beat both East and West in their last meetings which could be looked at as more of an indicator of who was playing better at the end of the season.

I think the whole situation is sad for the players. It says "we are here for 2nd place", and while that may be the likely reality the games have yet to be played and anything can happen on any given night. In reality Morgan is probably the 4th best team in the district though, so I have no problem with them being the 4 seed. But, if East or West had been there I would have said okay as well, and good luck to them.

Actually, just like everything else, the coin flipped had issues too. The coin was flipped and allowed to fall to the ground. However, it landed vertical on the leg of a table in the room. One rep suggested to move the table and allow it fall. The other representative asked to call KHSAA for a reversal. End result.......

Like I said, the whole situation is sad. KHSAA ruled one way yesterday, and it's different today. Sets a bad example for the kids. Hows this for food for thought, Morgan has been in the district 4 years and have been in a controversy 2 or the 4. In 2006, they fought to skrew up the rotation of the district tournament and to be able to host the district tourney. They were scheduled to host the 61st that year, but when they were redistricted to the 62nd it was also West Carter's turn there. Either way one team was going to have to wait a year, and host in Lewis County's rotation spot. MC, being the newcomer really should have had to go into the 2007 spot, because it through off the district rotation for the 3 remaining teams. It was a horrible situation to be in, but really what's fair is fair. This season, the KHSAA's ruling, right or wrong, was supposedly made, and then changed.

I think this season just adds fuel to the fire, and will continue to make the 62nd district the most contested district in the region. Even though Elliott is the favorite, I really don't think any other 4 seed in the region comes close to what they can bring to the table. MC vs. WC should be a dandy as well.
