corners in Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Foul is called with NO TIME on the clock and Kayla Webb makes two free throws for the Lady Indian victory!
Your Daddy Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Another example of a referee taking the game out of the players hands, and making a "look at me" call.
Plato Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Congrats to the Lady Indians. They usually don't need any "help" from the refs, but Kayla has to be praised for knocking down the FT's. After watching the kid from Florida last night it's even more impressive.
Over And Back Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Another example of a referee taking the game out of the players hands, and making a "look at me" call. Were you at the game? I'm curious to know what the foul was for. Any details?
oldonetechnique Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 The foul was called just for fun IMHO, it was called on the rebound with no time left. This game was decided by an official. Congrats to the Flyers on what should have been an upset of the # 2 team. Keep it up Coach Thacker.

I was not at the game, just going by the replay I saw. I agree, I do not like it when the "stripes" make their presence known, but I also believe in making sure you are not in a position that the "stripes" can make or break you; hit your free throws, do not make turnovers, etc. My coach always told me, "Excuses are for losers and I do not coach losers!"

It was a bailout call. Weak. :puke:

I am not even from your part of the state so I surely didn't care who won, but I hate it when people say "The game was decided by an official". Did the official shoot the free throws, did he/she miss any shots for FC during the game, turn it over, etc, etc, etc. Maybe people should propose that in a close game the officials should just leave the floor with a minute to play and let the teams call their own game the last minute. I'm sure that would work. Or the KHSAA could just forbid any whistles the last 10 seconds. If the same cal had been made in the second quarter no one whould have said a thing. Officials don't win or lose games, teams do.
Give&G083 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'm not gonna exonerate officials at all, they have the same accountability as anyone else and no they don't always get it right but it is a part of the human element of the game. I was at this game and also saw the replay on tv and my thoughts are there wasn't much contact that appeared on the play but there was some body contact. At the moment, I didn't think that there was but on the replay the body contact appeared to happen in the trunk as evidenced by the way the players body reacted. Now, my take to those disgruntled by the call, I would say how in the world did the young lady get so wide open under the basket? I would be more upset with that than anything. I mean ball was literally handed in to her! It was a great game and someone had to lose. I saw the same Montgomery Co. team play the night before and people were upset with the officiating that night as well but truth be known, Montgomery Co. comitted 20+ turnovers and that just magnified the poorly officiated game. So there you have it, officials miss calls and players fail to execute at times and it happens every game and when you're on the losing side of the outcome it hurts. :deadhorse:
