A very competitive game. HC played very well they had as much as a 5 point lead late in the 3rd. They were killing Highlands with the Princeton offense. George Grote probably led a balanced scoring attack.

 

Hats off to HC :ylsuper: they gave the Birds all they wanted.

Good game throughout as both teams were going back and forth throughout the whole game and I don't think there was a lead bigger than 5 throughout the whole game. Holy Cross's zone in the second half seemed to give Highlands problems in the beginning of the second half when Holy Cross came back and took the lead from down 5 in the first half.

Near the end of the game Holy Cross had a chance down either three or four with the ball and as Giwa was bringing up the ball it appeared as if he was tripped or fouled or something and he just lost the ball which isn't usual. Highlands recovered and Holy Cross had to foul them. IMO very questionable no call, but I didn't have a great view of it, it just seemed odd that Giwa would have lost the ball without anything happening. The Indians are playing good ball just can't seem to get over the hump right now.

Couldn't have said it any better. Holy Cross is playing very well right now. I think when they start to get back on a winning track, they will be a very hard team to beat.

One of those situations where you let the defensive player get away with a little riding or bumping until the player falls.... At that point you must call a foul. That was a bad call and Erik Goetz had a right to be mad.

I am guessing that Eta was at the Holmes/Boone game, so I will answer. I think it is a good win. They beat a well coached opponent and didn't suffer any injuries that might hinder future wins. It was good preparation as they move into the districts.

 

How would it not be good? Is is only a good win if you pummel an opponent?

I got that. But that is still my point. I don't think anybody walked away thinking Highlands was dominate in their victory over a lesser opponent. I think Holy Cross played better than it sounds like they have. (I admittedly have not seen HC previous to last night.) I still didn't see anything in the win for the Birds to take away as a negative.

I disagree. First of all my point was ETA (the supposed Highlands fan) said earlier this year that Highlands was the team that would give Holmes the most trouble and potentially upset them. Using that logic, I would expect a pretty good game come first round of districts between HC and Holmes. Do you expect that? Me neither.

 

Second of all, Holy Cross did not play better than they have been playing. If I am a Highlands fan I'd be concerned about the defense last night. Holy Cross couldn't hit an outside shot and didn't finish well at the basket. Giwa missed tons of easy floaters and layins that he usually puts in. Holy Cross scored tons of points off of complete defensive lapses and not just in the halfcourt set where they usually get teams with their backdoor offense. Highlands didn't get back out of their press well at all and they left guys open under the basket all night. I think a lot of it had to do with Highlands struggling with matching up out of their zone press... but what do I know.

 

Holy Cross did do one thing very well.... They played their tails off. They hustled the whole game and that's what kept them in it, but I don't think I'd necessarily would say that they played one of their better games. As for Highlands, I don't know if I'm calling this a good win... maybe something more like way to sneak one out in the fourth quarter let's learn from our mistakes.
