Where is the OVC...and others?

Featured Replies

Why don't the OVC schools recruit N. Ky.? Eastern has one player from N. Ky. on their roster. I see kids from Cincinnati on several OVC school rosters but virtually none from N. Ky. If they are recruiting in Cincinnati, why aren't they crossing the river? As we wonder why so many top athletes in one of the best football areas of the state aren't getting D1 BCS offers, maybe we should ask why they aren't getting offers from these OVC level D1 schools either.

You would have to ask the recruiters to find out for sure, but I do know that many college, especially, D1AA, D2, and NAIA, tend to go back to certain schools that they have gotten good recruits from in the past. For example, there are certain schools that recruit Raceland every year, no matter who we have, what our record is, or what position we have seniors in. I can tell you right now, that there are three or four schools that be at Raceland next year, talking to players, because they do it virtually every year.

I don't know if that is the reason for your situation or not, but I know it happens.

For some reason the OVC schools think they are better than what they are. They think they can sign D-1 kids and they think talent they bring from out of state is better than what KY has to offer. I can tell you the talent I have seen on som local OVC teams is very average.

You would think there would be more attention from the MAC also.

Speed guys that is the name of the game SPEED if you dont have it you are'nt going to play at that level.

I think many of the OVC schools play the trickle down game. They are looking for a kid who is being recruited by a higher level school who does not get the scholarship offer, then they come to the rescue at the last minute.

Unfortunately, I have seen UK do this type of recruiting as well.

Even until recently EKU and other OVC schools did not recruit many KY kids period. Coach Kidd mainly went to Georgia, and Florida. Danny Hope was not a big in state recruiter either. Coach Hood is slowly working toward home state kids though. I know this for a fact, their have been kids at Madison Southern and Madison Central who went and played at Western and other D-1 programs and never got the first letter from EKU and they are just a few miles away. So its not just NKY players, its that way all over.

Agreed, you would hope to see a lot Kentucky kids on the rosters of these schools. I know several N. KY guys that played for EKU back when Kidd was coaching. EKU has a lot of KY players on their roster and 6 of this year's recruits are from KY - but just one player on the roster from N. KY., one of the best football areas in the state. So EKU seems to be recruiting a decent amount in state but not in N. KY.

Murray only signed 10 guys last week. Two of them are from Kentucky (western part of the state). The past few years MSU's coach has done a solid job of getting KY kids.
