Congrats to Boone on sweeping these tournaments!

 

Boone won the JV game 55-51. Boone got up early and seemed in control but Holmes came out strong in the second half. They kept battling and finally tied the game up at 51 with less than a minute to go. Boone then got a shot inside to fall to take the lead, made the stop on defense and then sank two free throws with lees than 10 seconds to go to close it out.

 

In the freshman game Boone jumped on top in the 1st quarter, getting up by about 8. Dixie then seemed to take control of the game. Dixie went into the locker room at the half up by 5. They added to the lead in the 3rd quarter and appeared headed to victory. Dixie had a 13 point lead with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Then Boone went to a press, some hard man to man D and solid, patient work on the offensive end. Boone got the lead down to 8 entering the 4th quarter. Every minute it seemed Boone knocked another couple points off the lead. Then at about the :40 second mark Chase Stanley hit a 3 to give Boone the lead at 41-40. Good D by Boone over the last :40 seconds sealed the deal as Dixie had three or four shots at the win but could not get an open look and could not get the go ahead shot to fall. Great come from behind win by Boone to win the championship and avenge their only loss of the season to a Kentucky opponent.

Once again, Cov. Cath. did a great job hosting the JV and Freshman finals.

That was McClendon. He is only an 8th grader. He and Slusher (22) were definitely the key players for Holmes. McClendon hit one three that was a step beyond the NBA three point distance. On the Boone County side, Travis Montgomery played the entire game and was the key to victory. Thaman (?) hit 5 threes for Boone and Trevan Brown got some big points inside, as well as sinking the 2 free throws at the 7 second mark to seal the victory.

How much of a difference would Arnold have made in the JV game? Very impressive for Holmes to make it all the way to the JV championship and then only lose by 4 without their best sophomore even playing. Future looks bright for both programs.

Get used to hearing the name Mcclendon. You'll be hearing it a lot over the next 4 years. That kid is a player.

Maybe a difference / maybe not , we'll never know. I am sure Boone would have rather had Arnold trying to make two's instead of the guards shooting the lights out with three pointers like they did. Holmes played good and they played together with the kids they put on the court.

This brings up an interesting topic. How many kids in the Boone Co. feeder system will be required to go to Cooper high school or is this already established?

Add him in with the other young guys already playing varsity and they have the talent to contend for a region title.

I'd say the 10/11 season will be their best chance.

Any opinions on Ryle for the next 4 years? As stated in other threads, they always seem to have talented kids coming out of middle school.

Ryle has the talent to compete year in and year out for the 9th. For some reason it seems, that they are not getting the best out of the talent [jmo].

On a side note Camp Ernst 8th graders (Cooper next year) won the NKAC championship over Tischner. They have a lot of size and skilled guards. This 8th grade class is very talented in football as well, but that's a different thread.:thumb:
