So please explain again to me why Lewis County didn't go to school today (Friday) much less all week long but the roads were good enough to play Basketball tonight? And some wonder why children don't seem to get the idea that their education is important?

 

Sorry, it just doesn't make sense to me.

In county systems, there is a big difference from traveling the main roads and picking kids up on the side roads. Sometimes melting during the day makes a big difference from buses traveling at 6 o'clock in the morning alsol

In some rural county schools the roads are so small that is very hard to turn a bus around in ideal conditions, much less on ice. Not too hard to get a kid or two out of a holler with a full day notice.

The same way Carter County, Boyd County, Bath County, Elliott County, Lawrence County, and Menifee County all played games last night despite being out two straight weeks of school.

The must have missed several games, as I heard Lewis County is playing 5 nights next week!:scared:

While I did pick on Lewis, I do understand there are other schools who also missed school but played games anyway, and that is where I see the problem. See, I think getting kids an outstanding education is the job of the local school board, and not worrying about missing basketball games. I see it as telling a kid that it's okay to miss school because the roads are too bad, but the roads are indeed in good enough shape not to miss a basketball game. Seems strange to me at least to think sports are more important than education!

Lewis County will be making up the days of school they missed by I'm guessing taking away some of spring break and adding days on in June. However, you cant make the games up you miss in June so it is important to get as many games as you can in when scheduled. And yes, there are many roads that are difficult for a bus to drive on especially when the weather is not ideal. Let the kids play their games if possible.

How did the young PG for Pendleton play?

 

The 8th grader Mason Monroe played very well last night.

He ran the team and made good decisions as the point guard should.

He had many assist and defended well also. He also scored in double figures for the second night in a row. Many was on penetration and getting to the goal. He handles the ball very well with either hand and can create his shot or penetrate and hit his open teammates. It is hard to remember this kid is a middle schooler when watching him play and the decisions he makes with the ball and playing up against the older kids. The future definately looks bright for the Wildcats.
