Do you think Scott Co would be a contender to win their region if it weren't for transfers ?

So what is the conclusion here? Can a program maintain year in year out a top 5 ranking by "developing players" that come through their feeder programs, or would the program need to get transfers on a regular basis?

There will be transfers most every year, so what should the strategy be for schools trhat love their basketball?

Scott Co. doesn't win the region every year, but typically every year they are a top 5 team for most of the season and before last year hadn't had a transfer in 8 or 9 years (atleast that I know of). Mason Co. has been a top 5 team for what 7 or 8 years and now are a top 10 team. I know Barner transferred in now. Did Mason have any transfers in during Lofton's years? Also Ballard is another program that doesn't get many transfers that I know of, but has great success.

I think they would still be a good team, but there wouldn't be a "marked gap" between them and the rest of the pack in the 11th.

Dawg, what do you think a school's strategy should be?

It's not really the schools fault per se, it's the AAU teams and coaches and the friendships that are developed there, and it's companies in the local community offering jobs to the parent or parents. Those are 2 biggest contributers to transfers that I can see. And you can't really regulate either one without violating personal and civil laws.

KHSAA should cut it down to only one transfer per year. If you have more then one, the others must play JV for that season before playing varsity.

A hypothetical question then, if this were the rule.

Had the Faulkner twins relocated, which one would get to play varsity?

The one who was born first, or the one who set foot in the doorway of their new residence first?

I'd assume it'd be the same case as the Johnson brothers at Holmes, where both were ruled eligible at the same time..JJ hadn't played any varsity ball prior to coming to Holmes though, so he was never in question....Rico played limited minutes his freshman year...both transferred back to Holmes before the end of their freshman year though...FWIW.

So, if you moved from one end of the state to the other and you have a son that plays basketball, you'd be okay with him playing JV because that school already met it's quota on transfers for the year? You just got there second. And you'd be okay with that?

Not saying I'm for the "one transfer proposal", but I guess a family could choose to live in a community where your kid was the first transfer in, and the parent or parents could commute across the county line to their job.

You can't be serious.

Like I said, I'm not saying I'm for the proposal, but I guess a family could find a school where they were first transfer in.

Actually I'm more interested in what folks think the strategies should be for schools that love their basketball and aspire to be a top 5 program year in year out.

Here is a twist: Say there are indeed two local schools in any given area that the parents could choose. There son plays baseball and basketball. At one school he would be the first transfer in baseball, but the second in basketball. At the other school he would be the second transfer in baseball, but the first in basketball. What then?

I think implementing a "one transfer rule" would be a nightmare.

Agreed.

How many of these athletes transferring actually play two sports though? You'll find it's a very rare case. It happens more with football transfers than basketball transfers.
