Transfers

Featured Replies

How many of these athletes transferring actually play two sports though? You'll find it's a very rare case. It happens more with football transfers than basketball transfers.

But, you have to agree that it happens. Maybe not the "High Profile" transfers, but it happens a lot. And if such a stupid rule was made, it would not affect the "High profile" transfers that everyone is so upset about, it would affect the normal, run of the mill, student/athletes, that just want to play high school sports.

The "High profile" players would still find a school where they could play "Their sport", and the average Joe, would have to give up a sport.

Folks, you have to understand, when you ask an administrative body to make a rule, or to stop something, that is it, it is over. Many people that the rule was not made to affect, will be affected.

We've hashed out some really silly things here, but this one has to be atop the list.

It's not really the schools fault per se, it's the AAU teams and coaches and the friendships that are developed there, and it's companies in the local community offering jobs to the parent or parents. Those are 2 biggest contributers to transfers that I can see. And you can't really regulate either one without violating personal and civil laws.

I know you are talking about Scott Co. and Toyota. If you know anything of the hiring process is there they don't just give jobs to people. There is a waiting list of a few years to get hired at the plant. Euton's father lost his job and got another in Lexington. Why did he move to Georgetown instead of Lexington? That question is easily answered the taxes are lower in G'Town and the cheaper cost of living than anywhere else in Central Kentucky. Jackson's mom was looking out for the best of her children. She got them away from a bad situation in the Ashland area. Moved in with family in G'Town. If not mistaken the Flannery kids parents moved closer to where his father wasn't driving 4 or 5 hours a day back and forth to work. His mother kept her job in the Boone Co. schools.

Like I said, I'm not saying I'm for the proposal, but I guess a family could find a school where they were first transfer in.

Actually I'm more interested in what folks think the strategies should be for schools that love their basketball and aspire to be a top 5 program year in year out.

I guess I have no takers on a BGP basketball strategic planning session. Just trying get folks thinking along the lines of problem solving as opposed to problem identifying.

I think half the battle is identifying the problems before you can come up with a solution, agree? Just can't see how you can limit the # of transfers without hurting kids in the process. The simple solution is to meet the criteria for eligibility. If we're not happy with that, then that is where the solution/problem lies.

Not necessarily, and for the record, I am not for and have not proposed limiting transfers.

If I was school that aspired to get better with the goal of becoming a top 5 program year in year out, I would first look at other successful programs and things that they have in common. I don't necessairily think you have to "recreate the wheel".

I think something to look at is a program as a whole. Kids need to be taught to play basketball well before they get in high school. There needs to be good feeder programs. Then at the high school level its important to have a good mix of athletes and coaches. If you have a bad coach thats going to really hinder what a program can do. And if a coach doesn't have much to work with thats going to limit things.

I have been told the only transfer whos parent got a job at Toyota is Rick Jones. I am also told that he was on a 2 year waiting list before he got hired. Its not easy to get hired on any motor company. I just don't think that is correct.
Maybe your right, I don;t know because I never applied at one, but if there is a will, there is a way.
