livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 With a record of only 6-10 and having actually only beaten 3 teams (Newport, SG, and Beechwood 2X each) who are 3 of the worst teams in the 9th region........is there a lack of talent or has the coaching change made a huge impact on the program. I realize the new coach has an assistant who has no coaching experience and does not look to contribute much.....but this was a team that I think people thought would be a little more competitive. Coach Sorrell seems like a very knowledgeable coach. What is your opinion...?

livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 No that is not what I am saying. Coach Sorrell is a young and new head coach. That means the role of the assistant is vital and that is more the point. Any new coach needs as much support and knowledge from his/her assistants and after observing twice this year I am seeing no help for him at all. That is not the whole issue so I pose the question.....
livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Was not blaming the assistant so I want to be clear........do not even know who she is......my point was more did they not give him enough basketball experience on his bench to help him through the first few years of being a head coach. I think he can be a really good head coach as he learns the trade......Sorry for the misunderstanding.
katbird Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I have heard through the grape vine that the asst. at Bellevue also has 0 coaching experience. That puts a lot of pressure on a first year head coach that has no coaching experience. The administration at Bellevue is a joke...They have absolutely no clue what is going on. They set this young coach up to fail from the beginning..JMO:puke:
gbbfan Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I think Coach Sorrell is doing a very good job and has the knowledge to improve the program - he just has to be given more than just one season to prove it. As someone who has been to a few of his games, I think he is on the right track. You can't expect miraculous transformations over night. He is definitely better than what they had in the past.
thomasmoredad Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Just a question, was the assistant already in place? Did the new head coach hire the assistant or was she hired by the admin.? If the head coach chose the assistant then he obviously wants to do things his way and pretty much on his own, and sometimes a new fresh start no matter how painful is what a program needs. From what I have seen this season the coach does a good job.
livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Good questions thomasmoredad............But sometimes when you have a new head coach you need to get them a better assistant to help get through the first couple years. Do not necessarily agree with you Geez on it being an improvement from a coaching stand point but I could be wrong.
npt2015 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The games against Newport could have went either way
livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Yes you are right they could have gone either way.........Bellevue is not showing much ability this year at all.
Clyde Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Having seen Bellevue its hard to argue that its not related to talent. Some good players. Not enough good players.
THEDUDEABIDES Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Livinthedream according to my math the Tigers have beaten 5 teams not just 3 as you previously calculated. However, you are right the girls team is struggling this year and if you know anything about small school sports you would already know that success in these types of schools are typical cyclical (that means it happens in cycles!). Also, I heard that Coach Sorrell maybe looking for another assistant or two to help out with his current staff....I really think you and raiderbird should contact Bellevue's administration to sign on and share your wealth of knowledge with Coach Sorrell and the assistant with zero experience.
livinthedream Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Thedudeabides all I did was ask a question about the program and my limited observations. I asked for opinions. I assumed that was ok to do? Truth be told he has no help on that bench and the team is underachieving terrribly. He has talent and I was trying to see if others felt the way I did without being too critical. Not sure how you do your math but if you go to the KHSAA website Bellevue has beaten 3 teams twice Newport Silver Grove and Beechwood. Now unless they are not posting scores I stand by the statement that they have beaten 3 teams this year 2 times a piece.

My math was based on your previous statement...I didn't check KHSAA and all I did was supply my opinion. It just a pleasure to see the uninformed and the famous "lazyboy" coaches posting crazy comments on here all the time. I do agree that Bellevue's administration made a mistake in their hiring process for this job....they didn't consult BGP and it's constituents for input.

Bellevue admin is a joke period... end of story..I know a lot more than you think I do about what goes on at Bellevue..I will leave it at that..It is just ridiculous!!!! I feel bad for the kids that don't stand a chance with the incompetence from the top..:puke:
