January 26, 200917 yr Author I agree with that. What I took from the excerpts and Habib's original post is that those quoted feel they need to change what the party stands for, not how they project those ideas. Just the opposite. Of course, I do think they need to amend some of their policies, but as cch5432 described they should realign them with their political philosophy rather than chasing emotional issues to arouse the public so that they don't have to regroup and realign.
January 26, 200917 yr I assume this would be a discussion for a different thread, but I don't agree. Asking for forgiveness isn't enough IMO. When you support the murder of the innocent you don't get a second chance. Now I have no biblical evidence to support my line of thinking, it's just my opinion, but I just don't see it happening. You have no biblical reference because the Bible would not support you on it. God called David a man after God's heart and David sent the husband of his adulterous lover to the front lines of a battle to purposely get killed. David asked for forgiveness from his actions. Jesus was a direct descendent of David.

January 26, 200917 yr I didn't realize I had to have support from the Bible in order to form my opinions. Well, when you are talking about what God is going to do, it seems only logical to read about what God says he is going to do instead of each of us making it up as we go along. If you don't than it becomes UKMustangFanity instead of Christianity.
January 26, 200917 yr We shall see what the left does with the ball in their court now. They have had the house and senate for the last 2.5 years and have done very little in that time. Now with the legislative and executive branches under their yoke, let's see what they accomplish... No more excuses, although I am sure they will continue to try and use Bush as the excuse through 2020... I hope the right is at least smart enough to not let the left continue to define who the republican party is. Much like Obama succeeded in defining McCain as Bush 3.
January 26, 200917 yr I hope the right is at least smart enough to not let the left continue to define who the republican party is. The reason that the "left" can define what the Republican Party is because the Republican party does not stay true to its values, is very unorganized, and does not publicly and strongly state what they are going to do and why it will work. While, for me, abortion is the number 1 issue, the Republicans can't expect it to carry them to wins at the polls. They need to explain to the public why they can solve problems, and abortion and gay marriage only do it for so many people, and it isn't enough.

And to piggyback on this, they used to have claim and everyone saw it that they were the party of fiscal constraint. And then they claimed the Presidency and Congress from 2000 to 2006 and shot that claim out of the water. They need the Democrats to spend even more than they did and tax like crazy to get the voters to believe that once again. The Reps actions in that 6 year span was very disappointing.
January 26, 200917 yr Tangent observation: Does anyone else find it really funny that Obama is considered "left", and that he's left handed?
January 26, 200917 yr I guess I've had a difficult time ascertaining what that is over the past several years. Unfortunately, I agree with you; and we are not alone.... [unfortunate, NOT that I am agreeing with you, but that we can't discern what the party stands for. Just thought I would clarify that!!]
January 26, 200917 yr Republicans need to go back to their principles of fiscal conservatism to rebound and get majorities in both houses and the presidency. Republicans did too much spending in the last few years.
January 26, 200917 yr People were writing these same articles about the 'death of the Democrats' following 1994 and 2000. If there is one thing about certain about media and educational pundits, it is that they are totally absorbed in the idea that they have 'discovered' some new idea about politics, when in fact they are merely re-creating the debutante ball by calling it a sweet 16 party. People have been predicting the death knell of various parties for years during down cycles. There is nothing new here.

People have been predicting the death knell of various parties for years during down cycles. There is nothing new here. 1. No one (here) is predicting the death of the party. 2. Maybe it is these types of articles (as common as they are) that cause the respective parties to return to something substantial
January 27, 200917 yr Well, I am praying that some day Christians see that when they use the Constitution to justify their support of choice, that God is not going to be using that same piece of paper in judging them come Judgement Day. I have a major problem with christians voting against their beliefs as well. But, why must it be portrayed as only a christian issue. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong, no matter what the verses we can back it up with. History has shown that the religious (as a whole) vote for what their pocketbook feels will help them most. Abortion is not truly a religious issue, if it were, non-christian conservatives would not vote against it more than the church.
